Exactly, it’s *not* good enough, and I also agree with SPL that 4th would be a decent outcome based on what we’ve seen of the current players. I’m not sure Ajax have a better squad than AZ at the moment.

I didn’t think anyone played too badly. I wonder if what we saw is about this team’s level.

I hope some of the younger players improve over the season, otherwise it will continue to be difficult to break down defensive teams and difficult to keep clean sheets against pressing teams.

Even though the results have improved, there have been enough mistakes in the last two games to make me think we will concede at least a goal or two. Brighton will press again so for me it’s a question of how well Ajax does getting the ball into the attacking third.

The refs are calling some total BS against Brobbey this season. If the roles had been reversed I’m sure he’d have been given a yellow for diving.

The main thing for me is that they managed to play most of the game in the opponent’s half. This team hasn’t done that very often. Yes, there were still more mistakes in this match than you’d want to see all season, but at least it’s more like the attacking football we’re used to.

Even Sutalo, who was supposed to be the One Definitely Good Player, has been really poor.

Both fullbacks were disastrous in the second half. I really think they need to play with an extra central defender. In the end they lost by three goals which was about what I was expecting, although I don’t know if 5-2 or 3-0 is worse. Probably 5-2.

They set up much more defensively and I lost count of the backwards passes. I guess it did limit the damage a bit. I think we will see this approach a lot with this squad.

Jans made a really good move when he switched the entire attack on about the 65th minute so they could keep pressing. Utrecht got a bunch of chances and you can’t say they didn’t deserve to score.
