Due to the fact that NL is in 10th position in the UEFA coefficient table for next season, it gets 2 CL spots (group and non-champion 3rd qualifying round) and 3 EL spots (cup winner in 4th round, one spot in 3rd round, one spot in 2nd round) for a total of 5 spots (whereas this year it had 6 spots). Ajax and Twente are in CL and then PSV, AZ, and playoff winner in EL. The coefficients you quote that show us in 9th will be for the places in the 2012/13 UEFA season. For the 2011/12 UEFA season, we are in 10th, which you can see by looking at the coefficients here:

I know it's a bit confusing - the way it works is that the final coefficient at the end of each season actually tells you the spots for the season *after* the upcoming season. So in 2011/12 we get 5, and in 2012/13 we'll be back to 6.

Also, the CW spot didn't disappear. We only got 5 spots for next season. Because neither Ajax nor Twente needed the spot, AZ got a spot rather than being in the playoff, and Heracles got to be in the playoff whereas otherwise they wouldn't.

They had it all in their own hands, they just needed a win, no matter what the result at the ArenA would be...

*LOL* They really did have a shit couple of months. Don't forget: they spent more weeks at the top of the table than Ajax or Twente. They were the title favourites for a long time, but they really really f**ked it up big style in the final six or seven games or so. Ajax got 15 points out of the last five games. I think PSV got 7 points out of the last five...

The KNVB published their financial club rating the other day (which they will do annually from now on).

Category 3 = financially solid
Category 2 = 'okay for now, but potential worries if situation doesn't improve'
Category 1 = bad financial situation, therefore to be supervised by the KNVB (in some cases these clubs run the risk of not getting a license for next season)

So, here you go:

Categorie 1: AGOVV, Almere City FC, sc Cambuur Leeuwarden, FC Den Bosch, FC Dordrecht, FC Emmen, Excelsior, Feyenoord, Helmond Sport, NAC Breda, NEC, RBC Roosendaal, Roda JC, BV Veendam, Vitesse en Willem II.

Categorie 2: ADO Den Haag, Ajax, AZ, FC Eindhoven, Fortuna Sittard, De Graafschap, FC Groningen, sc Heerenveen, Heracles Almelo, MVV, PSV, RKC Waalwijk, Sparta Rotterdam, FC Utrecht en FC Zwolle.

Categorie 3: Go Ahead Eagles, Telstar, FC Twente, FC Volendam en VVV-Venlo.

Willem II are in category 1, as you can see, but their management claims that they will not go bankrupt, that there is a solid plan for next season and that they have enough sponsors already. "The lowest point is definitely behind us."

Doesn't look like they will go out of business.

As you can see: only two Eredivisie clubs are totally 'solid' at the moment (and VVV-Venlo may still go down). The club most likely to go out of business right now seems to be RBC Roosendaal.

Yeah I saw some of that on ESPN today - the guy who missed the last penalty (it was 4-3 to ADO when Groningen took their 5th one) scored one of the goals to get it to 5-1 in the first place. Pitty really, not keen on ADO.

Both Excelsior and VVV-Venlo survived the play-offs and will stay in the Eredivisie.

Excelsior did it convincingly; VVV-Venlo had a very narrow escape against FC Zwolle, who could have killed them in the second half today.

So, RKC Waalwijk will be the only newcomers to the Eredivisie next season.

For me, Gomes was on of the main reasons why psv won 4 titles in a row (2004-2008). He was terrible at Tottenham, but at psv he was really good, so i definetly don't want to see him back.
