IIRC it was in a friendly and he thought play had been whistled dead, and he was just playing around. Afterwards he felt somewhat sheepish.AsgAarD_xxx schreef:No, Henk... He was right. Higuita was also a offensive-playing goalkeeper and scored a few goals in club (and maybe on international games).
About his save - it was, as far as I remember, against England on Wembley stadium. And it's called "scorpion save". It was absolutely great :worshippy: .
He was also responsible for Colombia's getting knocked out of Italia '90 after he played around with the ball at his feet 35 yards from his goal, allowing Roger Milla to disposses him and score. I think I read somewhere that over his career he saved roughly 50% of penalties taken against him.
Chilavert was also awesome. He took penalties and free kicks from distance. He was great at them. He once charged down the pitch, pushed his team's striker out of the way, took a free kick, banged it into the back of the net, yelled at the striker, and ran back into his goal.
He was also a great goalie.

are you sure about Higuita scoring goals? I can't remember that, but it might be my memory failing on me.AsgAarD_xxx schreef:No, Henk... He was right. Higuita was also a offensive-playing goalkeeper and scored a few goals in club (and maybe on international games).

checked it and it was indeed my memory failing on me. Higuita scored 3 goals in his 69 caps international career according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren%C3%A9_Higuita

according to the same site, Chilavert scored 8 goals for his national team in 74 matches. A better result then Higuita.

You're right that it was a friendly. I remember watching on TV and the English commentators said that he just showboating and trying to attract and English club to sign him (it was around the time the Premier League was first hoovering up talent from around the globe). Not heard the "whistle" story before but sounds a bit more likely really.aveslacker schreef: IIRC it was in a friendly and he thought play had been whistled dead, and he was just playing around. I don't generally post on here (professional lurker), but I've been putting something together I thought people might be interested in. I'm fortunate enough to be a public school teacher and so have my summers off. The best part of this is that it allows me to watch as much of the World Cup as I want to, which I have decided is all of it.
Yes, I am planning to watch all 64 games. I have started a blog about it, called 64 in 32 (games in days, that is). If you're interested, please check it out. I haven't written that much yet, partly because I am still teaching and partly because the tournament hasn't started yet. I will be updating a lot during the World Cup.
I'd love to have some visitors other than my uncle and brother's college roommate.

I've found something similar on polish website... But there are no competition - just play (I mean that you won't win anything if your types come true). I can translate you a few things if you won't find anything in english.
Here's the link for that ---> http://mundial.wp.pl/scenariusz.html?rf ... caid=11af4
I think that you understand most of countries' names, but a few could be hard. So Wybrzeże Kości Słoniowej (Wyb. K. S.) = Ivory Coast, Włochy = Italy, Hiszpania = Spain.
Przejdź do meczów kolejnych rund (orange button under the typing tables) = Go to the next round games. After all you have grey button under your final results and presentation of the medallists.
Zapisz swój scenariusz = "Save your scenario".
Now you have:
Imię i nazwisko = "First name and surname" (nickname is available)
Twój komentarz do scenariusza = "Your comments for the scenario"
Wpisz swój e-mail = "Write your e-mail"
Wpisz e-mail osoby, która dostanie twój scenariusz = "Write e-mail of the person which will get your scenario".
Ask me if you don't understand something, or wait for an english version if polish will be too hard for you ;) .

Just a thought, but is it only in England that they seel these stupid car flags?
All of the supermarkets and market stalls are selling these little plastic St George Crosses which clip onto the top of your car window for about £1.00 for two and the streets are now full of them.
I suppose it's good that the flag is being "reclaimed" but they really are very annoying and various companies have banned them from company vehicles and the police are moaning about road safety.
I know it's the in season for cheap football stuff but these are very anoying and I've just not seen the same thing in other countries (I have some very 'stylish' Holland stuff from 'Blocker' but don't remeber the car flags.)

Stek kept only for 2nd half. Made the one save he had to make. Dutch were quite dominant throughout the match. Heitinga, Sneijder, Maduro and Babel got full games. Babel had a decent game, scored the winner but also missed an open goal and didn't make much of another 1/2 chance, but otherwise didn't lose the ball when he had it.Ayman schreef:Apart from falling asleep which led to the mexicans scoring, Heitinga had a good overall performance???What about Maduro and Stek?

Funny too see this one. In Venezuela everybody has one ( including me  ) the thing is that i think it makes more sense in country's that are not going to the World Cup, Why ??? well because you express what team you are rooting for, something that in England for example is quite obvious. In Venezuela the most common one's are Spain,Italy,Argentina,Mexico and Brazil but you can find a whole lot more, i have seen flags from Germany,USA,Czech Republic,Paraguay,Poland,Croatia and even Japan. I for one have the dutch flag :xyxthumbs:.SE6Ajacied schreef:Just a thought, but is it only in England that they seel these stupid car flags?

PS: The noise inside my car really is anoying, it sound as if you had a popcorn machine inside.

Managed to get coverage of the Holland - Mexico game in Oz (via ESPN Pacific Rim). Holland totally dominated. Score could have been a few more. Thought it was a decent performance for a friendly. Some minor issues with losing the ball in the centre a few times.
Thought Babel was strong for most of the game (I will even forgive him for his shocking miss - just dont do it in the actual WC!).
Can't wait till Sunday: Ned - Aus :eusa_dance:

Chugger I have the file you need mate. Send me a PM with your email address and will forward.Chugger schreef:At Euro 2004, there was an Excel file that UEFA released where you could type in the scores of each match and it automatically calculated the group standings, matchups for the knockout rounds etc.
Has anyone come across one of these for the world cup?
Cheers

Yeah, they did advertise it for ESPN. Not sure why they are not showing it.Frans schreef:I take it you won't be catching this one on ESPN, even though it was advertised during the last game I can't find any listings. :nooo:DanK schreef: Can't wait till Sunday: Ned - Aus :eusa_dance:
SBS (free to air) in Australia are the ones showing it live here. They also have the rights to every world cup game and are showing these live as well.
During the WC I average around 4 hours sleep a night and love every minute of it :D
Yeah, the press in Holland always totally over-hype everything during tournaments, which is a shame, because it means Dutch supporters, plus a load of non-football people who start getting in on the act around June, expect the team to win each time there's a tournament. Which raises expectations so much that it takes the fun out of everything, if you ask me. The papers usually roll out all the usual stereotypes and cliches about all the other teams and the whole thing gets hijacked by commercialism and bad journalism. You have to feel sorry for the true supporters, who are knowledgeable about football and end up having no tickets to the matches.
Supporting Ireland is much more fun in the long run. There's so much under-achievement and failure that we're just delighted to qualify. :D
