It's even worse when you have to take the train in stations where there are only machines to buy tickets : you just can't if you don't have a "typical dutch" card.

That was my life... Now it's time to go back to work. ;)

Off topic I know but what cards do they have in France then? My UK Switch card works fine in the NS ticket machines at train stations....

I think it's also a debit card and I'm not sure this is much used in France. I just have a basic mastercard.

Yeah that's right, Switch is a debit card. That's not good when you can't even buy a train ticket - you'll need reinforced pockets for all those coins you need to carry around for the machine ;)
