And another new player!
HTC said that we can expect two more new signings before the season starts, one of them hopefully being Groningen's Luis Suárez.
The other one? Could be Xabi Prieto (I surely hope so).

My attitude is the opposite: I am a supporter and therefore every Ajax purchase will get the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure Van Geel and HTC know what they're doing and who knows he will be great. He has my support until there is no denial that he's a bad buy.afckeeper95 schreef:I want to see him deliver before I applaud this purchase
But I must say, in all honesty: I've always been very enthusiastic about Van Geel's purchases so far, but this one...? I never liked Rommedahl when he was at PSV. I thought he was a pretty simple 'runner': fast and energetic, but without football intelligence. Is he really Ajax material?
In recent weeks there were rumours about Xabi Prieto for the right wing. That would have been an excellent buy, in my opinion, and according to his agent he would have to cost only 2 or 3 million. Does the purchase of Rommedahl mean that we can forget Xabi Prieto...? That would be a damn shame, if you ask me...
But as I said: Dennis Rommedahl has my support, like every other Ajax player. I haven't seen him play in years and he is a respected Danish international, no matter how you look at it.

Not a Rommedahl fan , mostly based on his most recent form at Charlton ,but hoping to become one. I hope he shuts my gob up big time by showing energy ,pace, and incisive play on the flank. Ajax has made it a habit to play 50 to 60 matches a year in all competitions of late so two productive right wings is sure not a luxury any more . It's a necessity.

I have had the dubious pleasure of Rommedahl blowing too many games for my national team, hence the bias. He has been a Morten Olsen favorite from Olsen's first day and has been given too much leniency when players like Martin Jorgensen (Fiorentina) Thomas Kahlenberg (Auxerre) Peter Lovenkrans (Shalke) or Gronkjaer (recently during this FC Copenhagen spell) should have been given chances to consistently play on the right wing. A good winger - a great Ajax winger - should be more than just fast in my opinion.Kowalczyk schreef:My attitude is the opposite: I am a supporter and therefore every Ajax purchase will get the benefit of the doubt.

Rommedahl had some good touched tonight, but as most of the boys he also had some really bad ones. I hope as a Danish national player that he does well at Ajax. I hope that for all the dk guys that come through - including Perez - but I have been following Rommedahl long enough (at Charlton too) to fall in love with this purchase - therefore the scepticism.

Right. I see what you mean.
Having said that: I must say that he looked quite good tonight, when he was brought on against Rangers: energetic, assist for the goal, almost another assist (for Kennedy). For what it's worth: he performed well as a sub this evening. As a whole it was a typical pre-season game, but I think that Ajax played some more than acceptable one-touch football in the latter 25 minutes, which was the phase in which Rommedahl played - and he was quite threatening more than once.

I have always kinda liked this guy, even from his P$V days and it was a shame he flopped at Charlton but I think if he can get his confidence back he could turn out to be an excellent buy.He made the assist to set up envelope for the goal yesterday and showed some good touches. He certainly looks better than that other idiot we used to have on the right wing.My prediction for the season is-
Dennis will score 15 goals
And will get 20 assists
And will be one of our best three players of the season

NOS Teletekst reports that it's a done deal: Rommedahl loaned out to NEC for the remainder of the season.
Too bad we couldn't sell him, but his salary was reportedly the problem.
Nothing on Ajax.nl just yet, but the NEC website already has it:

Right then. Rommedahl has made his début for NEC (they beat Sparta Rotterdam to advance to the quarter finals of the KNVB Cup), which means that it's time to close this thread down.
For the remainder of the season Rommedahl may be discussed in the Ajax Players On Loan thread.

Re: Dennis Rommedahl
Rommedahl limped off the pitch in Dordrecht yesterday. Hamstring injury. He will be out for an estimated three weeks, according to Ajax.nl.
Too bad for him; not the worst thing that could happen to Ajax, to be honest. We'll survive that.
