Who will, actually?

A committee of top shots from foreign clubs with a smooth-running management? That would be great, but I'm afraid they'll build a committee from people who've been part of the club and are therefore part of the problem themselves.
Fair chance, indeed... The previous committee that investigated the Ajax club structure had Leo van Wijk as its chairman...

The keyword is independence. Will this committee be 100% independent?

We can discuss it as soon as the names get confirmed...

Much to you displeasure, it looks like Cruijff wil be in it (source: Derksen).

Tijdens dat gesprek deelde Martin van Geel (technisch directeur, red.) me mee dat ik niet meer welkom was bij het scoutingteam.

Piet Keizer sacked by van Geel ???

Seems that (as in: the rumors are more and more insistent) Van Basten will be joining us next year and Bert Van Maarwijk will the new head coach of Holland.

Ajax suspend managing director Maarten Fontein
Amsterdam, 02 mrt 2008
The Board of Governors of AFC Ajax has decided to start the procedure to fire managing director Maarten Fontein.

The Board of Governors has also decided to suspend managing director Maarten Fontein immediately. This means that Mr Fontein has had to cease all his activities for Ajax and that he is no longer entitled to represent Ajax.

It is the opinion of the Board of Governors that partly due to the content and publication of the report of the investigating committee, a situation has risen in which it is no longer possible for Mr Fontein to operate as managing director in a credible manner and in Ajax's best interest. The Board of Governors' standpoint is supported by the major share holder.

The Board of Governors has repeatedly tried to speak to Mr Fontein over the past two weeks to work out a solution and regrets that this has not happened.

A decision about the temporary execution of the position of managing director will be made shortly.

Awaiting further developments, Ajax will give no added information to this press release. (ajax.nl)

I just love how they "tried to speak" with Fontein.

What a bunch of fools...

The Fontein saga has been a strange one.
When he came from P$V I was happy, having seen the number of unknown players they had brought in and who had performed well in the Eredivisie.

His purchases at Ajax have been an unmitigated disaster.

It just goes to show Piet de Visser (sp?) was really calling the shots in Eindhoven.

Hang on... Fontein, coming from PSV?

I don't get it. Are you sure you're not mixing people up here?

Fontein hardly knows that a football team has eleven players. He's a business man. He used to be a big shot at Holland's largest multinational company, Unilever. He made them the market leader in ice cream and popsicles in China...

Let me see if I've got this straight.

The commission that was described by the Coronel report as having no credibility, have sacked Fontijn because the Coronel report says he has no credibility.

and they don't appear to see any problem with that...

Fontein is probably one of the few people at Ajax actually doing his job properly.

So he had to go, obviously.

It seems that Cruijff is already leaving the ship (or submarine, I don't know...) according to the Telegraaf.

Great timing again...

Sounds like politics and petty infighting about power. Once van Basten actually is there day-to-day, I think due to his relationship with Cruijff, the things Cruijff wants done will start happening. Either that, or the infighting gets worse.

Below's what Reuters says.
Sounds like an arguement between JC and MvB, which I find hard to believe.

Cruyff pulls out of footballing overhaul at Ajax
AMSTERDAM, March 7 (Reuters) -

Former playing great Johan Cruyff has pulled out of plans to revamp the technical structure at Ajax Amsterdam, the Johan Cruyff Foundation said on Friday. Cruyff, 60, had indicated last month he would take on the job, his first official one at the club since being sacked as coach in 1988.

"There is a professional difference of opinion and not a personal conflict, because I want to bring back the level of the youth department to where it belongs," Cruyff said in a statement issued by the foundation.

The differences between Cruyff and the new technical staff led by Marco van Basten, who will become coach of Ajax after leading the Dutch national team during Euro 2008 in June, were too great, the foundation said.

"There are drastic measures necessary. I made a clear plan but my vision is not shared by those who should execute it," said Cruyff, a former European Player of the Year.

Ajax were expected to issue a statement on the matter later in the day.

I saw this on BVN (Dutch International Channel), I think it might have been Holland Sport. One of the commentators mentioned that it seemed to be Cruijff being a bit childish. He seemed to indicate that JC was only thinking of things to fix in the next 10 minutes and not long term for the Youth Academy, unlike van Gaal's way, he added.

Not sure who was right or wrong, or what the actual specific issues were, but it is a bit disappointing, although I am glad that van Basten has indirectly shown he is the boss.

Will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

We have a new board:
http://english.ajax.nl/web/show/id=1548 ... ntid=66248

These three fine gentlemen were also in the committee that wrote the report. I wholeheartedly agreed with that report, so I am very pleased to see that three of the men behind it are now the new board. Uri Coronel was in the board in the mid-90s. Now he's the new chairman. I think that's very good news. He's a warm, but also rational man. Michael van Praag-style.

I find it a bit 'funny' that the man who wrote the report that made Jaakke to leave will finally replace him. It’s not a bad idea though: the man knows the club and what he has to do…
There’s just one thing I didn’t really understood in his report: Coronel said that the Managing Director must have a football background, and criticized Fontein (also) for that. But then, in one of his two managing model, he says that if there’s a technical director, the managing director doesn’t need to know the football world... Anyway, now we have an interim managing director who isn’t much more specialist in football than Fontein, a TD, and soon a strong head-coach…

Martin van Geel has left the building!

He feels there can't be "two captains on the ship", etc. He has resigned. Everybody happy.
