Ajax en Liverpool zijn weer een stuk dichter bij elkaar gekomen. De Engelse topclub kwam gisteren terug met een hoger bod: omgerekend ongeveer 17,5 miljoen euro

Babel's agent Winnie Haatrecht issued a note of caution, however, and stated only a move which would benefit his client from a playing point of view would be considered.

Haatrecht said: 'The route is very clear. First Liverpool and Ajax need to get an agreement about a transfer, that's step one.

'After that we want to know what the technical staff of Liverpool has planned for Ryan. The sporting perspective must be totally clear. Only then can Ryan make a good choice.

'Of course Liverpool is a great club. But it must not be that he needs to fight with eight strikers for two positions. We must also look at the development of Ryan.'
Please god let him see the light.

If we do, its good money, and we got Mitea, Leo, Manu etc.

But Liverpool have Voronin, Torres, Crouch, and Kuyt. I don't think Babel can compete with all of them. Apprently Liverpool want to play Babel as a wide-man, but that would mean competing with the likes of Kewell.

Sky sports are saying it is nearly a done deal just the fee to be decided.

Ajax have said 20m euros is the price but I feel we will probably settle for about 18m . Still a great price but Ajax should hold out as Liverpool are dripping with money.

Babel wont play as a striker but appears he will still have to play on the left wing!! Didn't he say he did not want to keep playing as a winger!!

At the end of the day we are losing a guy with potential for a big fee.

Can one of you confirm that the reported buy out clause for 10m euros would come in next summer under his new contract? Until this week our press have only ever mentioned the 10m buyout. If this is the case then the club have done good business.

PS If a young striker with 7 league goals to his name this season is worth 20m then what price for the best goalscoring machine outside of Spain Italy and England ie KJH

PPS 40 million euros seriously.

This is getting ridiculous. Can we no longer hang onto any talent until they get to their mid 20s? We only see glimpses of the talent. How are we ever supposed to become a world class team again when everyone leaves well before they peak?

Damn frustraiting imo.

20 millions is still good money for that kind of player.

You can blame the players for that, as the club should respect a players decision. It's a pity that now football is all about money, with players leaving early to big clubs in order to get money to last them their life. There's got to be a limit to whats "decent" wages and fees etc. or clubs like Ajax will surely lose good talent early.

The thing is, football players have relatively short careers, and there is always the threat that they wil endure a career-ending injury tomorrow. So the pressure is on for young guys to make as much money as quickly as possible - you can't blame them for that.

After they have made their millions and the money is safely invested in buying up bars or restaurants etc, then they tend to look around for clubs that interest them or will help them make their move into coaching. That's why we get guys like Davids and Stam coming to us.

As far as I know AFC Ajax will cash the 20 M€, not Ryan Babel.

But if Babel wants to leave the club cant do much about it except restrain an unhappy player for a whole season

Maybe it would have been difficult for Babel to stay with a club that would have lost the opportunity to make 20 M€ because of his choice ?

If Ajax answer to Liverppoll had been "no way !", he would have stayed.

Not like he would've had any say in it either, in aforementioned case. :666.gif:

Philippe is right. Babel and his agend have stated numerous times that they won't talk with Liverpool if Ajax doesn't accept Liverpool's bid. He would have been fine with another year at Ajax, but Ajax wanted the cash.

It's official now, and Ajax has remarkably annouced the price : 17 millions.
That's a (really) good price, but I would like an explanation : why not 20 ?

Babel gets a €2.5 million signing-on bonus from Liverpool. PLUS, he'd negotiated a deal with Ajax where he gets 50% of any transfer deal over €10 million. So he made €6 million in one day, and will earn a further €3.2 Million per annum from his new day job.

You can see why Ajax have got no chance of ever hanging on to any of their kids.

Ajax get €13.5 million on the deal, with potential performance related bonuses.

Only 13,5?? :excited.gif: Babel gets 5 million euro's, why would Babel or Ajax agree with that? What did he say: ''I'll stay if you don't agree with me giving 50% of the transfer amount above the 10 million euro's" If I was Ajax, I would have said, ok then you'll stay. No problem, we can use you..

It was a clause in his contract. He gets 50% of anything over €10 million.

When he extended his contract? Ahh, that was it the actual disadvantage. There were rumors when he extended his contract about he had a minimum transfer fee of 9 million euro's to leave. But this was it actually..
