de Jong would indeed be a good signing by VGaal, a good player plus he will likely not then sign Daley.

Funny how they don't show VdV glowering in the stands on the highlight reels. Zlatan's departure from Ajax was not a moment of glory for him or the club.

Watched the Tottenham - QPR game last night. Verthongen had an outstanding game on defense. I was a little disappointed, though in that he wasn't really much of an offensive threat the way he used to be when he was with us. Eriksen had a good game, too. He seems to have the 'quarterback' role and is moving the attack forward (instead of sideways and backward), much more than he did with us.

Apparently Toby is not in favour with Diego and is leaving Atletico Madrid.
Ronald seems favourite to sign him for S'oton.

Marco van Basten announced that he is stepping down as trainer of AZ and will work as an assistant going forward. He stated that the stress of the job was leading to health issues.

Health is more important than football and I hope that van Basten finds happiness in his new role.

Patrick Kluivert is currently the trainer of the Curacao NT and has led them to the next round in the CONCACAF regional WC qualifying tournament. Well done to one of the classiest strikers to ever wear the read and white.

I have a couple of rather personal updates about Mr. John O'Brien. First, he is now a father! Owen Lovinger O'Brien was born on Tuesday May 12th. Momma and son are both doing well. Second, those of you have been around for a while might remember my son Ryan, who visited Ajax with me a couple of times when he was a little kid. Well, he is now 16 years old and a rather big boy, and a decent soccer player too. Sort of a John Terry type. Anyway, he got to play on a team with John this weekend, and he was so excited. Just thought I'd share that. A few of you will be pleased by that, I hope. :headbang.gif:

Let me clarify. He got to play with John O'Brien. Not John Terry. I would never allow that. (Just kidding.)

I really don't know. Haven't actually talked to him in a while. I know he got married last year, and now he's a new dad. He is still doing some work with Soccer Without Borders. Other than that, not sure. Seems to be well, though.

Didn't he drop in on one of your pickup games a couple of years ago?

I remember meeting him about a decade ago on one of the Ajax USA trips to Amsterdam. He was really down to earth.

Congrats to him and his family.

Yes indeed. He's a humble and very decent human being. We had him over for dinner a few years ago, and he asked the boys if they wanted to play soccer. HE asked THEM. They were over the moon. Check it out.

Such a great guy. I like to think that he's basically spending all his free time surfing these days (when he isn't caring for his newborn). Strange to think that such a laid back guy could also be a top-class competitive athlete.

Stekelenburg to Southampton on loan from Fulham. I doubt that he will beat out Forster for the #1 keeper position.

Well well well former Ajax player Leonardo Santiago is coming over for trials with my fourth division team in England; Notts County. Other ex Eredivisie players having trials include Julian Jenner and Gil Swerts. The reason for all these "exotic" arrivals is that we now have a Dutch coach Ricardo Moniz.....

Alderwiereld is rumoured to be heading off to Spurs. Do we get a sell on fee from this transfer? I've seen stories that he could go for as much as €18M (though I think that is too high but who knows).
