To all the dutch speaking people of these boards:

http://www.radioblogclub.fr/search/0/mijn_vlakke_land

What do you think? Jacques Brel is not a native dutch (or belgian flemish) speaker, but he's very close to perfection in french. Is he any good in dutch too?

Just bought three new CD's, all out in the same two weeks - Manu Chao 'La Radiolina' (which I've not actually played yet but I really like this guy), 'Shoffers Nation' by Babyshambles (which I thought was good but still strugling to get near The Libertines) and 'The World is Yours' by Ian Brown, which I think is absolutely excellent and I've not stopped playing.

Totally recommend two of these, Manu Chao (on reputation - even though I've not played it) and Ian Brown (as it's excellent and by a really under-rated artist imo).

Just got PJ Harvey's new one. Sounds good on the first two listens but I still miss her mad days. Nothing beats a 45 kg woman out-shouting a wall of guitar mangling with the words "Lick my legs - I'm on fire!!!"

This album is very stripped down and mellow. Still...sounds nice.

On account of Babyshambles, I guess I feel exactly like you there SE6, sounds ok but nowhere near Libertines. I had a short listen to it in the store and quickly decided not to buy it.

Ah, well, I've just moved house and no time to do too much shopping - I got them all online.

I'd probably have bought it anyway though...............

We seem to have discussed a lot on here but thought it might be fun to write a top ten of favourite tracks and see how our lists compare - shall I start?

1) November Rain - Guns n Roses
2) Hand in Glove - The Smiths
3) It's My Heart - Mano Negra (and the cover version by Rude Boy System)
4) Scorpios - Adam and the Ants
5) Shadowplay - Joy Division
6) She's Lost Control - Joy Division
7) A New England - Kirsty MacColl (and the Billy Bragg original)
8) Out of Time Man - Mano Negra
9) Radio Aktiv - Bruset (I've got that on a compilation - Great Track)
10) Anything else by Joy Division/Mano Negra or The Smiths (cheating I know)

This is really only today's list I suppose but a lot of these have been favourites of mine for years....I've tried to spread it out as well otherwise my top ten might all be on Hatful of Hollow by The Smiths!

Well, if we're all cheating can I add Don't Dictate by Penetration?

An old tune - not exactly an old favourite of mine but I'm playing it all the time at the moment - love the guitar rifts......

If we were talking albums I wouldn't have an issue, but individual songs...they change so often depending on my mood. So I have gone for my favs from my fav artists (and maybe 1 or 2 others):
Radiohead - No Surprises, Climbing Up The Walls, Paranoid Android, There There
Ryan Adams - Please Do Not Let Me Go, Call Me On Your Way Back Home, Oh My Sweet Carolina, Strawberry Wine, Blue Hotel
Sigur Rós - Svefn-g-englar, Olsen Olsen, Glósóli
Augie March - There Is No Such Place, One Crowded Hour
Jeff Buckley - Hellelujah, Lilac Wine, Satisfied Mind

I could also included a number of songs by Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Beck, The Rolling Stones, Joanna Newsom, Bob Marley, Faith No More...There are so many more. I could really list 200 songs here, easily, that I love and they vary from the funky, depressing, rock, hippy it really does vary.

I tell you what though there are a few songs I can't stand:
Stairway To Heaven (worst Led Zep song off all time)
Khe Sahn - Cold Chisel (this is one of the best pub/rock bands from Australia, but this song is so over rated).
99% of "Commercial Music"

That's Motorhead you're thinking of.

Meatloaf is a fat American who sings stupid love songs in an overdramatic fashion.

My favourite ten (in no particular order, because it changes almost every month) :

Sabaton - "Primo victoria"
Iron Maiden - "Paschendale"
Atrocity - "Gods of nations"
Pink Floyd - "High hopes"
Moonspell - "Alma mater"
Asgaard - "Cogitemus corpus esse mortale"
Godsmack - "Voodoo"
MC Hush - "All I got"
Jacek Kaczmarski - "Mury" *
Leszek Czajkowski - "Zolnierzom wykletym" **

*Jacek Kaczmarski (1957-2004), polish poet and singer, the bard of Solidarnosc. "Mury" ("The walls") is his most popular song. It is about hope for political changes, the end of communism and better times for Poland and for Europe.

**Leszek Czajkowski is not as popular as Kaczmarski, but he's called "the bard of political right wing". The song I put above ("Zolnierzom wykletym" I can translate as "For cursed soldiers" or "For excommunicated soldiers" - I do not know which one is better) is a tribute to polish soldiers-nationalists which created Narodowe Sily Zbrojne (National Armed Forces), a part of the Polish resistance movement in World War II.

Just watched the Sigur Ros documentary “heima” over the weekend.

How this band does this is beyond me. It is simply a stunning movie. There are no other words for it. Fabulous stuff. Would strongly encourage anyone who even has the smallest liking for this band to check it out.

They have captured perfectly the beauty of Iceland and their music.

Nice one guys.

I don't usually venture onto here, but just wanted to say I went to a concert tonight; "Rodrigo y Gabriela".

It blew my mind.

If you like fast accoustic guitar work and varied rythms its well worth checking out.
