I never got OK Computer either. So whiney and directionless. Perhaps that's why teenagers were into it? I liked The Bends and Pablo Honey, but hated OK Computer when it came out. Most people discovered Radiohead with that CD - for me it's the CD that turned me off Radiohead. Ever since then they've being trying to emulate OK Computer and have forgotten their indie roots.
Nirvana? I never got it. His voice is annoying and there's too much guitar. Bad guitar at that.
Massive Attack and The Prodigy got me through my teenage years. Specifically Blue Lines and Music for the Jilted Generation.
My favourite three CDs at the moment are:
Mano Negra - Patchanka
B-52's - Wild Planet
Jacques Dutronc - Originals (A compilation. Yeah, so what.)
Next week it will have changed.
And Ko, I know exactly what you mean. I know a guy who is 21 and listens to Golden Earring all day.

I read it.Chugger schreef:Well I'm done, doubt anyone will read this post anyway...
As a fellow Aussie (and a Melbournite to boot!!!) you will no doubt know of Melbourne band Augie March. Their debut album 'Sunset Studies', even after a few years of being released, is still one of all time fav listens.
Not sure if this CD is available outside of Australia, but i encourage anyone to try and have a listen. It's hard to describe their music, the lyrics are poetic stories, sung with the incredible lead voice of lead Glen Richards and the music is an odd mix. At first its just an easy listen but there are a number of layers, yet it stays simple.
Rolling Stone (AUS) described this at the time as 'possibly the best ever aussie debut album ever'. The only problem is they are over critical of themselves and I am yet to see them live without them bickering at each other. Good for a laugh though.
Finally, a place for a 4-eyed music geek to call home. :headbang: Speaking of covers, I know I'm biased ,but Pearl Jam does about the best covers of whatever they tackle. Some of the excellent covers I've heard: Rockin' In The Free World by Neil Young,CCR's Fortunate Son,The Clash's Know Your Rights(always dedicated This Is for Joe Strummer ...and The Clash), I Believe in Miracles by The Ramones, Lion's Share by The Germs,X's The New World,The American In me by The Avengers, and Bleed For Me by The Dead Kennedy's.Special mention to the accoustic The Kids Are Alright I heard, played by Eddie(guitar) and Boom(organ) ,on 3/18.Chills down the spine.
RE: Bloc Party, they play here on June 18.Just caught some of their show at Coachella last week.AWESOME!! If anyone has a chance to hit Coachella in the future, do it. Turns out there were 70 bands, 5 stages, 12 hours each day. NIN, Gang of Four, New Order, Weezer,Bauhaus,Bloc Party, M.I.A. Tegan and Sara, British Sea Power, Mercury Rev....I could go on and on.
And for the anti-music experience, the serene,794,000 acre, two desert eco-systems in one, indescribable beauty of Joshua Tree National Park..20 minutes away from Coachella. :headbang:

I think we had a good time, but I can't remember... I wasn't going to drink, you know. I'll never go out with Jocks again. ;)jamcocteau schreef: Yup meet you in Dans about 8.00pm - there are 3 of us going - 2 scottish lads and a blonde scottish lass.
Seriously though: I remember you went home at some point, but did I actually say goodbye to your friends when we left? Or did I just walk away? Either way: great people. Look forward to seeing you all again (Groningen?).
The Fever were a bit shit, but The Departure are stars and Hot Hot Heat are simply the dog's bollocks! Great show. My God, was the singer's dad proud of his boy!

Old boy now exiting stage right.
But in my opinion the best album from the Doors is "strange days", and for the Who, "who's next" is my favorite.
I would of course mention Pink Floyd among others.
My favorite cover is Aqualung (jethro tull), another disgusting old man...
Appie, stay strong !

My favourite Who album would be a 'best of' of all their singles. Or otherwise... Yeah, Who's Next.for the Who, "who's next" is my favorite.

Main Flow's "Hipopulation"
and Common Sense's "Be" are must have.
meh :|
And another great cover (sort of) : A tune of the last Prodigy release is a cover of Love Buzz by Nirvana which was already a cover of Shocking Blue (I don't know that band), or is the Prodigy tune a cover of Shocking Blue directly ??Carcajou schreef:If people here like rap music :Kowalczyk schreef:I'm with you on that one :xyxthumbs:philippe schreef:But in my opinion the best album from the Doors is "strange days"

My favorite Who material is their early stuff, perhaps brought on by being taken to see the Who and Pink Floyd in the now torn down John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. The date was 24 July 1968. I was 9.Bless my aunt the hippie.I especially love "A Quick One While He's Away" and "The Kids Are Alright".
Speaking in a sideways manner of Joy Division. I have never been a fan of New Order, but their performance at Coachella was EXCELLENT.
Best band I've seen in the last week or so: British Sea Power. I missed a NY Dolls show on the same night, but have never been happier. Seeing British Sea Power in a cramped church basement was incredible.
Concert announcemnt of the week: Pearl Jam is opening for The Rolling Stones at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on 28.9.05.
Musician sighting: Jeff Ament, Pearl Jam.He was at the Sonics v. Spurs basketball game ,Key Arena, Seattle , Sunday 15.5.

"Has anyone ever tried pulling off the "Ian Curtis"-dance successfully?"
You mean tying a noose round your neck and hanging from a beam?
Mmmmmm, not a dance i was ever going to try. Seems a tad dangerous to me.
************
As an aside can I just say that The Doors were complete kak?
Not quite in the U2/Queen/Redhotchiliepeppers/Nirvana order of crapness - but fucking close.

Ko, Ajax's marketing people are coming to my office next Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. to talk about that thing we talked about.
I will of course, keep you informed.

@ Jamcocteau: we were talking about the Little Barrie gig at De Melkweg. I just checked their website and the gig's on Tuesday (tomorrow). Which means I won't be able to go. I have a 'May 24th 1995: It's Ten F#cking Years Ago Today' party with some of my mates... so no Little Barrie for me. :nooo:

Hate to admit it but I quite like Oasis' new album.
Some good Beatles-vibes and some good what I in Swedish call "skrammelrock" (like noicy rock and roll).
I would never admit this in person of course, just on the internet where the whole world has access to my words. :eusa_pray:
