It now looks like all the pieces are in place at the football level. Assuming the Board situation is worked out, I think the club can look at a period of stability.

Yeah, if that's not Frank de Boer's cue to leave I don't know what will be ;)

There was discussion yesterday about the financial situation of the club based on a newspaper article in de Telegraaf. That article is based on a posting to catanaccio.nl that discussed the finances at Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. There was an earlier article from May that discussed just Ajax finances. I think both articles are realistic appraisals of the current situation and do explain why the club is being especially prudent regarding transfers. The May article is here: http://www.catenaccio.nl/2012/nederland ... -van-ajax/ and the review of the three clubs is herehttp://www.catenaccio.nl/2012/financien ... drijfzand/

Google translator gives a decent interpretation of the articles for those who don't read Dutch all that well.

Plenty of interesting informations. Thanks.

Good articles -- tough sledding ahead. But the new board will have to come up with a way to get back on track fiscally without giving up on the football. When players won't come to us from teams like Herenveen, the magic that was the name of Ajax is sadly gone. Glad we managed to get that third star in when we did -- championships look like they will be far away now.

Which is exactly the point I have been making.

It's really important to streamline the management structure and downsize the number of those on salary. I don't know whether Ajax Cape Town is a drag on earnings or not but certainly the earlier experience with such clubs was a disaster. The club still has a strong brand and it's merchandizing is best in the league. The new television contract will bring in some more money but it's really not going to impact things all that much. The biggest thing that they can do (which SPL so often notes) is to get the contracts of the young players done quickly and with appropriate extension times so we don't constantly face selling players going into their final year. I agree with rjf1 that there will be some tough sledding but as long as FdB, Jonk, Bergkamp, and Overmars stay the course I'm optimistic. We still have one of the best youth development systems in the world (though I do wish we would develop a striker or two!).

If you compare our situation to what it was even two or three years ago, we're doing much better. We still have some dead weight from that period on the books, but nothing like it was. Hopefully now that our boardroom crisis seems to be resolved, we can start thinking more strategically about how and where we want this club to go.

And it's worth pointing out that our club has won the eredivisie the last two years in a row. Hopefully this means that we have reason to be optimistic regarding both our on-field results and our off-field situation.

From Ajax.nl via translator :

August 16, 2012

Management and the Supervisory Board of AFC Ajax NV are forced to respond to reports about the "financial chaos" at the club. This information is factually incorrect.
Ajax has a positive equity and a good cash position. The club is located in the healthiest category of the KNVB license commission, category III. Since Ajax post wages and salaries to the back, for the third consecutive year participating in the UEFA Champions League and also the income from such TV funds will rise, sees the club no reason for supporters and shareholders to worry about the financial situation.

transfer Policy
The policy of the club's own youth is emphatically the opportunity to gain in the first team to play. This group of players, if necessary, supplemented by purchases that potential. The salaries are adjusted to a solid financial structure, with the notion that in the case of lack of income from the UEFA Champions League no such loss.

In October the annual figures for the year 2011/12 announced in December, the General Meeting of Shareholders is held.

Translated from Ajax Netwerk :

Ajax remain in the healthy category 3

The KNVB also at the last measurement Ajax placed in category 3 of the healthy clubs. Based on the submitted budget figures 2012 / '13, 3 clubs belonging to category 1 (insufficient), 23 clubs to category 2 (sufficient) and 9 clubs to category 3 (good). Classified in the 'healthy' category 3: Ajax, Almere City FC, Go Ahead Eagles, FC Eindhoven FC Oss, PSV, Telstar, FC Twente and FC Volendam.

We could soon have 2 new commissaris. Dolf Collee and Ernst Ligthart. If in december the general assembly approves their names, the board will be finally complete.
The only position to be filled is General Director now. The Cruijff revolution is apparently done.

Looks like our former keeper will be the new director at the club!!! http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/voetb ... jax__.html

If the story is confirmed by the club it should finalize the management structure and put the past behind us. This is a good sign.

The club confirmed that the talks are serious.
Edwin and Michael Kinsbergen are the targets for two jobs in the direction.
According to some papers, the second coul be a sort of "tutor" of the first

This is a nice read: an interview with Marc Overmars, translated from Danish I think, and posted on the Ajax Netwerk forum. He speaks specifically about Ajax's Danes:

The last step of the "revolution" is completed.
The adventure of (discussed) commercial director Van der Aat at Ajax is over.
According to many he has been found responsible for the not excellent investment of the Ajax Experience and, all in all, "guilty" of voting against Cruijff on the occasion of the famous "Van Gaal war".
Now there are 2 slots more to complete this new board: the general director (Van Der Sar+Kiesbergen?) and the commercial one (Maarten Fontein? The same Kiesbergen?)
Hope this ends in a short term and will give finally stability to the club.

Is Fontein really going to come back? Wow. Not that I'm opposed to it, but, wow.

Just a rumor of a few weeks ago, nothing more.
For sure he has publicly criticized some behaviours of Van der Aat, but that's it.

Edwin vd Sar as "Marketing Director"???
I'm all for having ex players in the infrastructure and on the board, but Marketing Director???

Given the importance of marketing in the financial world of modern football both in building/developing the brand, and optimising revenues don't you want an professional doing that job?

Jonk was always the odd man out and it's a shame as he is the only one who seemed to have a vision. Better that they would sack Overmars who seems not to have a clue about transfers.
