Being 60 years old and still in love with the music of the 60's you probably know I do not use this thread .Menno ,you did once say you liked the music of the Byrds!!

I would just like to say today of course is 53 years to the day since the death of a Texas born genius at a meer 22 . Of all the great and influencial people to have come out of the great country of USA Buddy Holly is up with them all.

He was around for only a couple of years or so way back a million years ago but his music has influenced so many millions of people and of course pop stars and lives on . Its still fresh and of course very simple and imo will be played for ever .

RIP Buddy .

yes, it takes a big puff to blow a sax :drecul.gif:

but really, just keep at it, dedicate time to it and youll get there. never get disheartened. i cant really say much more than that for the sax as i sucks at the sax, tried once, never again! hehe

good luck with it though mate

I've been playing guitar for about twenty years now. Mostly folk/blues/bluegrass on my acoustic, but I have a strat that I like to jam with every once in a while.

I saw Melissa Etheridge at the "Ancienne Belgique" (great concert hall b.t.w.) in Brussels Monday night.
An excellent concert, really top notch.
She still has a fantastic voice, and can certainly play guitar...

Have to say I was never a fan of Bob Marley but since I went to the Arena live last April I am now fully aware of 3 Little Birdies as sung by our fans every home game so You Tubed the song and others of his and like them . I am slowly emerging from the 60's although Menno did post here a few years ago that he liked the Byrds .
You Tube for oldies like me is fantastic. I have started playing loads of obscure tracks of Gary Puckett and the Union Gap .The guy had a really great voice but is only know here in Uk for Lady Willpower and Young Girl. I am sure quoting these old un's will make some of you laugh at me . I don't care . Mr Tambourine Man is still going to be played at my funeral , and I wont be complaining whether its the Byrds great version or Bob Dylan's original version .

Right you can stop laughing now and continue with up to date music. PS. At the Brit Awards tonight they have nominated in the female solo awards section someone called Kate Bush . She's now 53 , and still my favourite all time female singer.Hope she wins .

Speaking of Bob Marley, the Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer duet version of Redemption Song is spine tingling. Oh, and Ko gets his wish. Eddie Vedder touring solo in europe in July. I think two shows in Amsterdam.

Looks like Jack White will be touring in europe this summer, including Heineken Hall and Rock Werchter dates. I think Heineken Hall is 25 June. Hope you'll get the Jack White/Alabama Shakes bill which has eight US dates lined up in May, including two at Roseland in NYC ( Can't wait to attend these on 21 and 22 May). Also, got e-mail from Soundgarden advising they are a headliner at London Calling in June.

Saw that Eddie Vedder injured his arm and cancelled his US solo tour. Hope Europe will be spared. Also, saw Alabama Shakes in Philly on April 9. Absofuckinglutely incredible !! Definitely recommend them. I believe they'll be in Europe this summer.

Now its December we in the Uk are subjected to the worst music that pop stars have ever produced ie the Christmas dross records ,yes its Jona Lewie stop the cavalary time.

Going into the supermarkets and shops are now hell . I actually like 2 such records , for someone who is not a great lover of this season I sadly like Greg Lake's I believe in father Christmas but this is of course just a famous piece of classical music Prokofiev's Sleighride with words.

The only other Christmas pop song I love and simply the best Christmas music of all time has to be The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl's Fairy Tale of New York .
I am sure my American friends on here with have a laugh at this choice !

PS If I could ban any song in the whole world it would be Slades dreadful Christmas song . Once it started in the supermarket the other day I walked out ,seriously.

So sorry, SPL. Maybe that's why the suicide rate goes up around the holidays.

One of my newest musical crushes is Allah-Las, four guys from Los Angeles who play very retro, surf-guitary pop. They've been touring the Netherlands this week - did any of you guys happen to see them? What are they like live?

My three favorite Christmas songs:

1) Fairytale of New York
2) Merry Christmas from the Family -- Robert Earl Keen
3) Christmas in Hollis -- Run DMC

This is very nice. Britain's finest newspaper on Twilight Zone by Golden Earring, which was my very first 7-inch single as a seven year-old kid, back in 1982.

"The best AOR record of the early 80s? Something by Fleetwood Mac, maybe? No, it was made by four Dutch blokes."

Check it out!

The weird thing is: Twilight Zone was never a hit in Britain. It was huge in North America, though: MTV was a brand-new thing, they put the Dick Maas-directed video on heavy rotation. Twilight Zone went to #10 in the Billboard Hot 100, to #1 in the Billboard Rock Tracks and to #2 (or was it #3...?) in Canada. #1 in Holland, obviously. It totally (if briefly) revived Golden Earring's stateside career, which had petered out since Radar Love (1974). Arena tours, great sales for the Cut LP.

Ridiculously good song, still. Very weird, discomforting lyrics and storyline.

Golden Earring was the first big time rock band I saw live. It was probably 1977, the headliner was Ted Nugent. The venue: Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo, MI.
