Oh Dear OPH - I do hope you're not a closet Eagle......The Mighty Blackpool are presently in Football League Division III (or League One in new money)

Are you sure you're not related to Sir Alex Ferguson as he/she had a little dig at the tangerine army some time back too...

Certainly not a closet Eagle - before becoming a season card holder at Ajax I held a season card at Palace for 10 years with my 2 sons - the eldest of which still sees palace play whenever they are near to where he lives up in Huddersfield.

Certainly not related to Sir Alex Feguson, either in real life or on these boards.

Well good luck to your son...I have a great appreciation of "loyal supporters" - as I'm a London based 'Pool and Ajax fan I'm sure you'll see that.

It's just that being Croydon born I have rather an overdose of CPFC.......

Not even in a parallel universe could I ever be anything to do with Sir Alex Ferguson. Although I will say that I used to bet on his horses and did fairly well out of it so he wasn't / isn't all bad.

Sad days for ex-ajacied (Ajax myth ??) Christian Chivu :

Roma is the red zone in Serie A and his former Romanian club Universitea Craiova went down to second division. They went brankrupt and had to sell ALL their players. Most of the players are going to sign a contract for Dinamo Bucuresti.

Sad sad days...

Arsenal won the FA Cup on penalties against the Scum. 0-0 was the score and only Scholes , for the scum missed his penalty.

Nothing gives me more pleasure in football than seeing the Scum lose ( apart from Ajax winning of course)

The scum created plenty of chances but could not score. Arsenal had only ONE shot at goal which forced a save and that was after 100 mins.

Talking of defensive football reminds me that Milan and Liverpool play on Weds.

Nothing makes me sicker than watching a team playing so bad football. And then on top of all win the game. United deserved this one.

'Operation Makita'

Bericht door Kowalczyk » ma mei 23, 2005 1:42 pm

I just read this story about the hard core of Twente supporters... I just have to tell you, because it's so great (I didn't know it). Here's the story of... 'Operation Makita'.

Like so many Dutch clubs Twente moved to a new stadium a number of years ago: Arke Stadium. Very nice ground indeed. Always atmopsheric. The Twente fans almost immediately felt at home (something Ajax fans can be very jealous of...) but there was one thing they did not like about the new stadium: the seats were not red and white (the club colours), but all the colours of the rainbow: black, white, yellow, green, red, orange, brown - randomly placed. The idea behind it is that the stands will always look full that way (and it kind of works: the empty stands have the same random pattern as a stand full of people).

But the fans did not like it. They complained to the board that the seats looked like M&M's.

So they secretly prepared 'Operation Makita'. Makita is a brand of electric screwdrivers. In August 2000 they went to the stadium at night, in the dark, and worked the whole night, using their electric screwdrivers to unscrew all the seats in their section (Vak P) that were not red. They replaced them with red ones they unscrewed and took out of other sections. Those red seats were replaced with the 'not-red' ones from section P.

By the next morning section P was completely red, whereas the other stands hardly looked different (still M&M's, but with not as many red seats as before).

The people of the club were absolutely flabbergasted when they arrived to the ground the next morning. Section P had 'turned red' overnight. There was no damage. No graffiti. No traces. Nothing. The fans had worked very neatly and professionally.

The board thought it was really funny. They could appreciate 'Operation Makita' and soon gave in to the desire of the fans: they announced that all the seats at Arke Stadium will be replaced with red and white ones (in phases).

Fantastic story. X'D A typical practical joke from guys who are extremely passionate about their club. They will sometimes get into a fight or break something, but without them there would be no stories like this in football. I love this kind of stuff.

Wonderful story. A great way for the fans to make their point, without protesting in a violent way. And also a nice gesture from the board to give in for the fan's demands. A football club should be all about cooperation between the fans and the people inside the club. The fans make such a huge part of the club, and should never be ignored by the board.

Sadly no game was on - I just tend to visit football grounds if I'm abroad. Sometimes you get a stadium tour like at Barcelona or at least a souvenir shop - at Rasunda neither but I won't forget those seats!

The fans at Twente are to be congratulated for their ingenuity and their pride in their club's tradition..i.e. its colors in this instance. I hope the Bored will understand Ajax tradition and restore the traditional crest.

I was wondering :

I saw an advertisement in Amsterdam on Sunday for SurinamPros or something like that. I'm now wondering : if Surinam was to create a team what would be the players playing for them ?

I'm here asking the Dutch specialists the names of all the best players and a complete line up. Thank you for the help.

EDIT : I know this sounds stupid, because Surinam probably already has a team, but if they were to include all the Dutch players of Surinamese heritage like De Jong and Maduro and stuff, you know...

This is the squad they currently work with:

http://www.suriprofs.nl/spelers.html

Obviously, players like Clarence Seedorf, Michael Reiziger, Patrick Kluivert and Darl Douglas (Utrecht) could also be included.

I don't think Hedwiges Maduro is of Surinamese origins, by the way. I thought his ancestors were from either the Netherlands Antilles or the Cape Verde Islands.
