I notice in the last 16 ,the only English side was Derby and they got beaten today.Not sure what this says about the standard of youth in England.At least from 1st January 2021 English sides will no longer be able to sign anyone from abroad before their 18th birthday.

Ajax ,in the meantime ,must be one of the favourites for this year's European Youth League.

There are still three matches to be played that all involve Italian teams and it's not clear when those will be played. They are all in the other side of the bracket.

Of course come 31 December this year Uk will be out of the EU and with freedom of movement finished so will the signing of kids under 18 by English sides.

That's excellent news! Hopefully our kids stay a year or two longer now. Will definitely have a domino effect up the chain.

We have lost an U18 goalie to Leeds.17 year old Dani van den Heuvel.Last season he was Dutch U17 goalie but he has turned down a contract with us as Raatsie and Setford will be ahead of him in the pecking order for our U18's.Setford is only 16 and rated higher.

U19 CL quarter final today v Midtjylland of Denmark. 15.00 CET. Semis and final are all in the next week. Hansen and Q Timber both playing rather than being in Austria.

Just seen a comment on a Dutch site that the best 16 year old prospect Amourricho van Axel Dongen has turned down a contract and is talking to Leipzig and the top EPL .A winger he looked very good in U17 last season but has had many injuries and is currently injured . Maybe that is why he is taking big money at 16.

He is not 16 until 29 Sept, had it not been for covid the transfer window would have closed 1st sept and he probably would not have been allowed to go.

Ajax U-19 are down 1-0 at the half. Raatsie played the ball up to Reeger who slipped and didn't get the ball so it was a very cheap turnover deep in Ajax territory. Easy chance to convert by Benfica. Benfica have slightly been the better side.

I only watched the first half as I'm watching the senior team right now. Ajax lost to Benfica 3-0. Judging from the statistics, Benfica were the better side by far. Don't know if the other U-19 eligible players with the senior team would have made a difference.

Didn't watch but with so many talents in Austria plus Eddine injured this was a weakened team. Hansen,QTimber Raatsie and Reeger are all big talents some of the rest just filling .

League starts today and both U17 and U18 games live. U17 3-0 v NEC at HT. Been watching this Rijkoff a hattrick.U18 at Feyenoord and 3-0 up on15 mins so willwatch some of that.

Watched mainly the U17 ,they won 6-0. Saw only about 30 mins of U18 they won 6-2 in Rotterdam.enjoyable watching.

Yep - it's really gratifying to watch them come up through the age grades and finally make it to Jong and the big team.

With the transfer deadline finished in England now until 1st Jan thus ends any more players under 18 being signed from OS. UK are out of the EU wef 1st January and will then be subject to FIFA so no transfers from overseas until 18.

It seems the last player U18 going to England is Joel Ideho a 17 year winger from our U18. He only joined us back in June from Willem and we have not given him a contract.I read that we signed him only because Axel Dongen was going . Now AD is staying Ideho looks like he will just end up as sub and no certainty of a contract.It states his parent need money so he has gone off to Arsenal for a bag of gold.

Never mind the Euros the most important football story today is our youth teams are playing again after about 8 months out of action. As much as I love our 1st team and Jong Ajax I have missed watching U17 and U18's being shown on Ajax tv on Saturdays.

Only playing friendlies but U18 lost 1-0 to AZ today,sadly no streams. Friendlies against other clubs are likely to go through the summer until the leagues start again.

Ajaxshowtime have been listing all the youth squads for the new season this week.Will be good to see games on Saturdays on Ajax tv again.

News today of our first youth of the summer to go abroad ,16 year old goalie Roy Steur who joins Bayer Leverkursen.He has no contract with us and must have got a good offer.The other U17 goalie is Tommie Setford,Dutch with an english father. There is an older brother also a goalie Charlie Setford only 17,who has a contract and so highly rated he is in the Jong Ajax squad.

Terribly sad news,Noah Gesser a 16 year old youth ,who is in our U17's, was killed in a car crash last night and his 18 year old brother was also killed. No words can cover what their parents must be feeling .

After a years absence youth football is back and the CL U19 starts tomorrow with Ajax playing Sporting. With players from 2002 available Ajax will have mainly players from 2004,with 3 or 4 from 2005 and only the Danish lad Dall born in 2003.We will have possibly the youngest squad of anyone.

Majority of Jong Ajax squad could play but are not being used for these CL games.Setford,Hlynsson and Van Axel Dongen are the only ones included who have played for Jong Ajax this season (V.A.Dongen is still 16 the other 2 only 17)
