I watched the final 15 minutes of the Youth League match. Ajax were dominant and had a nice goal by Axel Dongen called back for off sides. It looked like a very close call and they don't have VAR at this level. Ajax had another good chance a minute later with several shots in box that were blocked by defenders. Game ended at 1-1. As SPL noted, the Ajax team was very young but this was a good result.

I did not catch the game but a good result as we were a lot younger.The Danish lad Kjaer scored our goal.

CL U19 today v Besiktas Ko 14.30 CET and its live on Ajax youtube channel.

1-0 up at Ht Hlynsson finished off the move for the goal.We look the better side although I wonder whether how many Besiktas lads are 18 and 19 like the Lisbon players, as we have Vos and Misehouy both just 16 and the others are all from 2004 ie 17 or coming up 17.We have a very young side and indeed squad so it would be great if we can get through the group stages into the Ko

A 3-1 win by us ,Van Axel Dongen and Misehouy the 2nd half goals. They scored when 3-0 down and even missed a penalty ,although I think it was a weak challenge. Apart from that I thought Besiktas a very poor side not much football skills. Had we put out our strongest U19 ie those who play for Jong Ajax we would have got 10 but it is better for the 16 and 17 year olds to experience such games.

Misehouy and Vos in Mf looked good,they are just 16 and Milovanovic at LCD impressed me and Aertssen at RCD a good game apart from giving away the penalty.

Lets hope for a nice double tonight and an easy Ajax win.

Just finished watching the U18 beat Feyenoord 4-3 with a 96th min winner. Sloppy defending and indeed overall pretty sloppy football by Ajax and no one stood out as an exceptional talent.
With the U17 winning 2-1 in Rotterdam it was a great double over them.

The Ajax U-18 team got thrashed by Dortmund 1-5. Let's hope the senior side does much better.

Didn't watch the game but take into account we had 10 players aged 16 or 17 and one player born in 2003 they had 4 born in 2003 and 1 born in 2002 so their overall age was a lot older which counts at this level.

We stick to U18 in this competition others really do treat it as u19.Ajax go for individual development over results but even so 5-1 was bad.

U18 beat Heerenveen 8-1 ,I watched until Ht when it was 5-0 and we missed a penalty. Looked like the seniors as they just attacked with quick football and Misehouy the 16 year old No 10 an outstanding prospect in the making,lucky for Heerenveen he only played 45 min. Sarfo and Banel the wingers looked good and Aning the left back was very quick flying up the wing.

NB.They play PSV on Weds at home so should be on Ajax youtube ,its 17.30 CET.

We won 3-2 but I missed the game as my son and fiancee came for the afternoon.

I did not see our U19 beat Dortmund yesterday but after the 5-1 home defeat we suffered against them the other week a 1-0 win was a good result.Rasmussen scored the goal and whereas many sides are playing this comp. with 18 and 19 year olds Rasmussen was our only 18 year old .Our squad are nearly all 17 with 3 x 16 's playing. Misehouy another 16 missed the game.

I looked all over for a stream but there was not one to be found. It was the only U19 match of the day that was not televised. Your point about Ajax using younger players is a great one. Traditionally this is what they have done in past competitions. It's good for the kids as they feel valued and get to face stern competition.

I think it may have been on UEFA channel. Top 2 qualify just like the seniors, and Dortmund have 7 points ,Ajax 7, Sporting 6, Besiktas 3. So we win the home game v Sporting to progress.

We beat Besiktas 1-0 this afternoon,V A Dongen a penalty.Milovanovic and Banel both got red cards near the end.

We lead the table with 10 points,Sporting 8 Dortmund 7.If we get a draw we will be top but lose and Dortmund win we are 3rd.

Dave Vos the U 18 coach has left and joined Rangers as Van Bronckhorst's assistant.A good career move and it seems he was impressing as our u18 coach. Steven Pienaar is the U18 Assistant but Ajax will look for another coach to work with him.

Playing Sporting this afternoon 14.30 CET ko and its on Ajax tv. I have to go out so will miss most of the game but a draw means we go through.

Lost 3-2 and we are out the competition.I came in and watched the last 20 mins. V A Dongen got us to 2-0 after 25mins they scored 42 and 71 .The winner on 87 came from a free kick, Setford ,the goalie, jumped up missed and the ball ended up in the net.

Milovanovic and Aning ,our 2 regular left sided defenders were missing and Dirksen was LB but he has had next to no playing time this season.He was subbed after they made it 2-2 by Emen ,a striker ,who has barely played since March 2020. Meanwhile the normal LB sub who has had playing time this season sat the game out.Crazy subs by Heitinga who is coaching U18 and Jong at present.

So Dortmund want our U18 LB Prince Aning.He is 18 in April ,an U18 Oranje International but Ajax have not offered him a contract.In the few U18 games I have seen he impresses me.

2 other regular u18's are still not contracted MF Brandes and winger Banel so what are Ajax playing at ?Reeger from the Young side has contracted running out in June!

Aning has indicated he wants to stay at Ajax but at nearly 18 if he is being offered a big contract at Dortmund no one can blame him for leaving us.

How does he compare against Baas and Salah Eddine? They're both not too much older than him. From memory - both of them are on contracts.

Baas and Salah-Eddine are 1 and 2 years older respectively and either could breakthrough in the first team squad next season as back up .I dont expect both to be here next season though,depends on their performances in the 2nd half of the season.

Young Ajax has 2 other LB's in Douglas and Dirksen but neither are good enough and as just squad fillers for Young. I have watched some U18 games this season and Aning impresses as a wing back. On Ajaxshowtime ,where there are some serious youth followers, a guy called Wolterx seems to have the most knowledge and rates Aning the best LB in Holland from 2004 year and one of the best performers in our U 18 this season. Aning has played for Dutch U 18's this season.

Dortmund and Bayern both seem to want him and if Ajax dont come up with a contact soon he will be off to Germany and nobody can blame him.Nearly 18 and no offer from us clearly suggests Ajax dont rate him.

Thanks for the detailed explanation SPL. Sounds like we need to get our acts together and make an offer to Aning.

U18 lost 3-2 to Feyenoord in the cup today.The season sort of got postponed in early December and started up again in early Feb.Todays game in Rotterdam was on their youtube channel and I watched from 35 mins onwards.

2-1 down at Ht I did wonder why Milovanovic and Aning did not start at LCD and LB,as both are 1st choices at those positions.Both came on at Ht along with the young Belgium MF Idumbo. We had played with 3 defensive MF of which Vos is the best but Idumbo ,who has only just been promoted from the U17 looked good and is an attacking MF. Upfront Banel on the left was the only one to impress.

Still no word of when Banel and Aning will get contracts and rumours of Aning going to Dortmund still exist.Good to see u18 in action again

Ajax listed their retaining list of youth this week.In U18,where there is a squad of 24, I expected 7 or 8 to go but only 3 are released.Seems like 9 players without contracts are being promoted to Jong.With no youth games last season and its now U18 and not U19 many lads have not had a real chance to develop .2 of the 9 played no football last season and hardly any this season.

Contract wise Aning ,Banel and Brandes plus Emen ,all U18 regulars surely wont all stay without contracts. Another ,Sarfo a winger and fairly regular stays with u18 as an overage player.

PS Reiziger's son has been released from U17.
