13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
Ajax got lucky with the Copa del Rey draw. Real Madrid plays Barcelona in a two way tie in the Spanish Cup competition with matches on February 6 and March 2 along with the scheduled La Liga match on February 27.

Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
Real back to form .Was looking forward to this game but we have played 3 dreadful games out of 4 since the break and
half our players just want to perform in this game to raise their transfer value.
Blind is way too slow to be a Cd indeed Wober played there v Bayern so Blind could play DM. Think over 2 legs Real will beat us easily.
Getting to the last 16 is great and everyone talking about Ajax again but I would rather win the title.

Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
I think the three CL qualifying rounds have caught up to Ajax. I know they had some time off for the winter break but Tadic really looks unquick right now and the moves he had in December are no longer there. Ziyech is just shooting wildly every time he has the ball. I am frustrated that ten Hag has not rotated players other than the cup matches and even then they were lucky to have drawn weak opposition until playing Heerenveen a couple of weeks ago. I'm pretty much in agreement with SPL, I just cannot see the team performing against Madrid.

Ajax have been dreadful since the winter break, while Real have found form (6 wins and a draw with Barça in the last 7 matches). Ajax look like disjointed individuals, not a team. Plus Frenckie looks like he could miss the game (or not be 100% fit).
I fear we're going to get walloped...

Reports are saying that Frenckie will be fit to play, so that's a little bit of good news....Manneken Pis schreef:Ajax have been dreadful since the winter break, while Real have found form (6 wins and a draw with Barça in the last 7 matches). Last time we played a Spanish team in the CL it was a 2-1 win over Barcelona. Of course they were without Messi but did have Neymar for the full 90. Goals from Hoessen and Serero as I recall and Veltman was sent off on a Red Card. Strange things happen in the Champions League. PSG were without Cavani and Neymar and dominated ManU in Manchester 0-2.

Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
If all of us were asked in December of a good result against Real - we would've emphatically said yes. We live in strange times so far in 2019. I have no idea which Ajax is going to show up tomorrow. Funny thing is that I'll be pissed no matter what the result is. If we beat Real, then I'll be pissed because we've almost given up the Eredivisie title. If we don't beat Real, I'll be pissed anyway
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
Jep. Same thing here. If we have a bad result I'll be pissed and if Ajax plays a very good game it will piss me off too as that means the team members are just not fully concentrated and lack the professial sportmanship when playing in the Eredivisie.Amol schreef:If all of us were asked in December of a good result against Real - we would've emphatically said yes. Never talk again about you've got nothing to learn in the Eredivisie anymore when you don't even manage to win the Eredivisie and give away easy goals against Excelsior and Heracles Almelo.

Bookmakers give Ajax not very low chances. Just a bit below 50% that Ajax will either draw or win today.
They also think the chance that players like for example Tagliafico will not be booked by the referee is much higher than that they will receive a card.

Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
Mazraoui back at RB with Neres in and Tadic at striker. Labyad who came on v Heracles is not even sub. Have to say yet again our back up players are not good enough . Subs tonight Dolberg and KJH good enough .Veltman is ok but has not played for nearly 10 months .The other 4 subs Lamprou,Kristensen,de Wit and Sinkgraven are not good enough and I would not want these 4 here next season.
After 3 out of 4 poor league games since the Winter break in which our players played poorly and looked unmotivated I am not so excited by tonight . I think we can get a draw and expect the players ,majority of whom want out ,will motivate themselves.

Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
Good luck boys. Call me crazy, but I have a good feeling about this game.
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
What the hell? This is ridiculous
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
So strange how selective the reviews are
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
And Madrid's money seems to have disallowed the goal.
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
I mean, why look at that so closely, and not even replay the Ramos push when Tadic was shooting? Really don't understand what the framework is for how VAR is used.
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
Use the VAR to come up with good reasons to disallow goals against Madrid, Barca, PSG, Man City in that order.Tom_ schreef:I mean, why look at that so closely, and not even replay the Ramos push when Tadic was shooting? Really don't understand what the framework is for how VAR is used.
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
And, why not review that foul on Nico to see if the contact ended in the box? I don't think it did, but it's worth checking isn't it?
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
VAR is used after every goal in CL. I think it was probably the right call. However, I don't know why Carvahal was not called for the foul when he pushed Neres over from behind. Clear foul for me and even the Spanish announcers here in the US called it 'falta'

Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
what a bullshit call. an absolute bullshit call. how is that goal keeper interference if you just happen to stand in his way?! he wasn't even going to get to it madrid players weren't even complaining
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
I'm all for using the VAR, but would the ref even think of doing that if Madrid had scored that goal. Answer is no - and we would all be wondering why they didn't use VAR.
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
Goal should have stood.BT pundits saying slightly offside. Great half by us a bit different from Heracles.
Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
I think the call was offsides on Tagliafico, correct?kezme44 schreef:what a bullshit call. an absolute bullshit call. how is that goal keeper interference if you just happen to stand in his way?! he wasn't even going to get to it madrid players weren't even complaining
No matter, goal was erased. We'll see if Ajax can keep up the pressing in the second half.

Re: 13 FEB 2019; Ajax - Real Madrid; Champions League
Call was offside on Tadic interfering with the keeper at the moment Nico headed the ball.
