09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
After a thrilling win against Feyenoord, Ajax hit the road next weekend to take on Fortuna Sittard who are comfortably in the middle of the table. One game at a time is the rule of the day.

Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Fortuna had 12 men on the pitch for about a half minute against Heerenveen on the weekend!!!
they were doing a double sub but only one player came off. The brief advantage did lead to a corner kick and a goal that tied the match. van Persie was really angry about this and wants the goal wiped off and Heerenveen given the win. Farioli and the staff need to be alert for this.

Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
I dunno, maybe we can exploit it… I reckon our squad would work much better in a 5-3-3 formation!
Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
One game at a time. In Farioli we trust. I'd like to see our new LW get some minutes. I'm assuming Berghuis will start at LW like against F-word and then be subbed.
Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Godts is back in training but uncertain whether he will play. Hato is suspended for this game and Regeer is out for two months after injuring his ankle earlier in the week. Looking forward to seeing Edvardson at LW.

Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Blimey ,I thought PSV would win easy . PSV and Feyenoord both seems to be saying Ajax go and take the title with your Italian style non Ajax football.Long way to go but what a turn around with PSV starting to implode.
Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Seems unlikely that we could win the title with this squad. At the start of this season I thought we would be battling AZ for 4th.
Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Fitz-Jim replaces Klaassen and with Hato suspended a nice surprise 16 year old Mokio starts at LB.He is the 2nd youngest starting debutant ever ,only the great Clarence Seedorf was younger,by 3 days.
Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Utrecht lost 1-0 at home to lowly Almere ,great they are 6 points behind us and played 2 more. Ajax just get 3 points today.
Janse is sub and 17 year old Sean Steur sub for 1st time

Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Messy half, partly the pitch but also some slack passing. Fitz-Jim is having another shocker, not like there are many great options for that position though. Maybe take him off for Klaassen or bring on Edvardson and move Berghuis to MF.
Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Poor pitch and our football is also poor.Mokio looks good though.
Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Not a great ad for the eredivisie, with an awful pitch, poor football, dicey reffing and about 900 fouls. I’m not sure that was a clear cut penalty so we were lucky that VAR talked Higler into it.
However, any away win is a great result.

Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Not much to add, a dreadful pitch and Ajax were poor. Got lucky with the pen and Weghorst alert to put it in . A nice goal by Rasmussen which will do his confidence good. Mokio looked very decent on debut and looks like we have Hato's replacement if he goes this summer.
We are now top and 3rd place is 9 points away and we have a game in hand over PSV and Utrecht.

Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
It was an ugly win on an absolutely horrible pitch with lots of niggling fouls by both teams. Nevertheless, Ajax moves to the top of the table, something that was unthinkable at the beginning of this season. Weghorst with the match winner after Berghuis missed the PK but was alert enough to head the ball forward. Rassmussen (not the name I thought I would mention) got the clinching second goal midway through injury time. Ajax had a tough first half in adjusting to the pitch and the passing was way off and players were slipping after even easy moves. Mokio gets a debut start and is the second youngest with only Clarence Seedorf younger. He acquitted himself just fine in place of the suspended Hato.
Player Ratings:
Passveer (7) - had a couple of saves to make and his kicking was decent
Gaaei (7) - decent enough and it looks like he now had free kick duties
Sutalo (7) - slipped once but otherwise was solid
Baas (7) -kept his position well
Mokio (7) - was not fazed by starting in a league match at a young age
Henderson (6) - only say a single half of play
Taylor (6.5) - had an OK match as he had to drop back to the holding MF role in the 2nd half
Fitz-Jim (5.5) - some very poor passing which is unlike him
Traore (4.5) - poorest player on the pitch and was only saved by niggling fouls on him
Brobbey (6) - just above average
Berghuis (7) - alert on the PK (can't blame him for being tentative on the kick as it would have been easy to slip); did a very good job tracking back
Davy One Goal (6) - worked hard as always but had a couple of poor touches that disrupted what might have been promising attacks
Weghorst (6.5) - got the match winner and helped out on the defensive end as well/ nice assist to Rassmussen
Edvardson (5.5) - had a couple of touches
Rugani (NR) - on for the final 10 or so minutes to help out with the defense
Rassmussen (NR) - also on late and got a very nice goal off the pass from Weghorst
Europa League Playoff Match against Union Saint-Galloise coming up on Thursday and home to Heracles next weekend

Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Seeing the condition of the pitch, I was pretty certain that we'd drop points today. But somehow we persevered and got the win. Amazing that both PSV and Utrecht dropped points.
That was a clear penalty to me. We've had softer penalties given against us in Europe. The defender raised his hand and touched the ball and at the same time pushed and fell on to Weghorst thereby denying him a clear shot on goal.

Also Mokio impressed me with his calmness and did extremely well. Loving the clear out of the dross and youth players back in the squad.
Re: 09 FEB 2025; Fortuna Sittard - Ajax; Match Day 21
Also, rotations have kept our squad fresher than the other teams. Let the Dutch footie pundits yell and scream against rotation, but we'll keep doing what we're doing.
