18 Jul 2006: SV Spakenburg - Ajax

Bericht door Kowalczyk » za jul 08, 2006 9:50 pm

This game is the very last pre-season friendly against Dutch amateur opposition. After this one it will be time for some more serious test-cases against Arsenal (Bergkamp Testimonial), First Division side FC Emmen and German outfit Borussia Dortmund.

I just read on Ajax Netwerk that Zdenek Grygera (who was eliminated in the first round with the Czech Republic) will go back in training tomorrow (Friday). The five Dutchies and Markus Rosenberg will join the team on Monday.

So, in theory the Spakenburg friendly (on Tuesday) could be the first with a complete squad. However, I don't expect the World Cup boys to see action against Spakenburg. I think they'll do a few days of training first, so that the Bergkamp Testimonial will be the first time for Ajax to have a complete squad.

Well, it seems that Ajax wants to break a record by losing its first game againt an amateur team since 1983...

Spakenburg led 2-0 at half-time. There are rumours that de Mul reduced the score at 2-1.

F*cking hell, what a joke...

For the record: the last time Ajax failed to beat an amateur opponent in pre-season was precisely 10 years ago, believe it or not: on 18 July 1996 Hollandia vs Ajax was 1-1.

As far as I could see in my Ajax history book the last defeat against amateur opposition was on 12 July 1986 (that's twenty years ago): 2-1 against a regional selection of players from the area in the heart of the country known as De Veluwe.

it's only a friendly after a week of hard training in tropical conditions, doesn't matter at all.
