KNVB Cup 2013-2014. Quarter final. Kick-off time at the ArenA: 20.45 CET.

AZ has already advanced by beating Roda. Other games are today.

Vermeer is expected to start and i kinda hope to see some line-up changes.

Even though The cup isn't as important as the league I would still hate to see us lose to the F word at our own Arena. So I hope we will come out strong. And while the triple is still possible why not go for it (yes it's almost impossible with our depth, but you never know what Frank will be able to do with our kids).

Well, Vermeer did not score points on this free kick.
And Ajax is not scoring any points at all tonight so far.

Our performance was bad before Fischer scored - no shots, no chances but senseless possession. Vermeer made one mistake which was forgiven.

What a wild first half. Ajax had close to 70% of possession. Fischer was horrible and then pops up with three shots in a row on the same play, finally putting it in the back of the net. Not sure van Rhijn was at fault on the first goal, he was even with Denswil and I think someone missed Vilhena and didn't track back. Duarte is having a nice first half and IMO is better than Serero; he always looks to pass forward and drive the ball. Denswil had some poor passes in the first 10 minutes and then settled down and did a nice job the rest of the way. Vermeer was very poor coming out and missed the punch, he was lucky Boilesen was able to clear it off the line.

Great call on ref, not stopping our attack after (Duarte i think) was brought down.

well at least Fischer has scored ,not a great first half

Terrible ball control helped Serero to score.

Well deserved win as Ajax were in total command in the second half. Everyone settled down and played good controlling football. Nice final goal by Serero (I couldn't tell who set him free, was it Klaasen?).

Player Ratings:

Vermeer (6.5) - poor coming out in the first half but settled down and was decent the rest of the way
Boilesen (7) - good game and hope his elbow is OK after the altercation with Schaken; good clearance off the line
Denswil (6.5) - some really poor passes keep the rating on the low side
Veltman (7) - usual good position game and helped keep Pelle under control
van Rhijn (7) - really had lots of space in the second half to push forward but nobody passed the ball to him
Blind (6.5) - a little rocky in the first half but then settled down
Duarte (7) - really good game from him
Klaasen (6.5) - pretty silent almost the whole match, didn't seem to get many touches
Fischer (6.5) - alternately very bad and excellent
Bojan (7.5) - worked hard all game long and was excellent on the ball
Schöne (6.5) - just a shade above average
Poulsen (6.5) - good coming in for the stretch run with Blind moving to fullback
Serero (7) - kept his cool and slotted it home
Sigthorrson (NR) - not on too long to get a rating

On to the next round now.

A good win in the end . Take away the 2 goals and the second half was not great but we are now in the semis and will not worry who we get.

A great start to the new year with wins over lightbulbers and F word.

It's always interesting to see the differences between you and the analysis in the dutch section. Take Denswil and Blind. Denswil was rated as quite poor, and Blind was clearly Man Of The Match (nice assists!), but you give them both 6.5.

I thought both were poor in the first half (Blind had a couple of bad passes and missed a man that he was supposed to mark) and both did well in the second half. I just didn't think Blind was as good as he is capable of playing. Funny that Bojan was named MOTM in the Arena and maybe that's the fan vote via Sidekick, go figure.

You missed the two brilliant assists of Dailey resulting in goals?

Fischer assisted on Serero's goal and the first goal was pretty much Fischer alone though he did get the original pass from Blind; Bojan's header was a follow up. I'm not belittling his play at all as he had a decent match; I just didn't think it was quite as good as other recent ones.

I'd like to add that, Veltman's first 20 minutes or so, were a mini disaster. He kept making wrong passes, maybe couldn't work well with Denswil, and positioning himself wrongly or in front of other players.

I notice we play AZ away in the semi mid week 27th March.Should be able to get past them and then its Zwolle or NEC in the final.Hope we can do a league and cup double this season.
