Back to work following the FIFA WC qualifying play. Alvarez got a match winner for Mexico, Antony had a good spell with Brazil and Onana was amazing as Cameroon qualified. Antony is suspended for this match following the two foolish YCs. I have not seen an injury update for Martinez so it may be Blind in the middle with Tagliafico at FB. Ajax just need to keep winning putting pressure on PSV who are away to FC Twente.

Rensch is out and Martinez very doubtful .Timber a doubt also.

Cursing the Ko time as it the same time as my local team Worthing play .I do like to go and watch live footy but Ajax comes first.

Groningen game is going to be tough but then again all 7 games will be tough as we have played poorly since January and are now getting injuries.

This is going to be a difficult match for Ajax with all the missing players. I guess we will see Schuurs and Blind in the middle of the defense. Antony will be missed on the right wing.

Schuurs and Blind should be good enough for most league games. Schuurs may be short for Ajax but would get a regular game in most Dutch sides.

Ajax were awful for 46 minutes yet are leading 1-2.

this half could have ended 2-0 Groningen but somehow it ends 1-2. still a terrible half of football, let’s hope for the 2nd

45 mins of poor football,every player crap and then we get 2 goals.We cannot really play any worse than those 45 mins so lets hope we can somehow win.

Since Pasveer's injury our defence has looked very shaky .

all three goals in stoppage time, that’s a first for me. psv away to twente now, could be a tricky game for them. kudus I thought had a good game and of course eth substituted him out

What a dreadful display by Ajax who were lucky to get out of town with a 1-3 win. Maybe all the international players were tired from WC qualifiers but there was really nobody how was outstanding in this one. Ajax MF was quite poor. Berghuis was beautifully set up and scuffed a shot that should have eased Ajax's way to the win. He did atone later with a very nice goal but it should not have been left so late. Pressure is now on PSV who play FC Twente in Enschede.

Player Ratings:

Onana (6) - made one nice save but his kicking was again subpar
Blind (5.5) - MIA on the Groningen goal as he was pushed up too far
Schuurs (6) - OK match
Timber (5.5) - too much sloppy play and conceded some free kicks close in
Mazraoui (6) - just above average
Gravenberch (5.5) - barely above mediocre
Kudus (5.5) - had some good moments on the ball along with some bad ones; I'm not sure he is a solution to the Ajax MF
Klaassen (5.5) - trademark good run for the first goal but pretty bad otherwise
Tadic (6) - slotted home the game winner from the spot but not all the good otherwise
Haller (4.5) - AWOL on the pitch and came off for Brobbey
Berghuis (5) - the nice goal to give Ajax a two goal lead masked an otherwise mediocre game, though he did track back and defend
Brobbey (5) - on for Haller and was marginally better
Alvarez (5) - on for Kudus and did help out defensively
Tagliafico (NR) - on for Blind but did not have an impact
Taylor (NR) - on for Klaassen who took a knock on his ankle

Three matches against teams on the bottom of the table along with the Cup match against PSV coming up over the next four weeks.

A dreadful performance overall ,lucky they gave away a silly pen. Kept thinking we would give away a 2nd until Berghuis finally finished it. He and Haller were poor today but then again no one played well.

We are still playing poorly but apart from that GAE shambles we have now won 11 out of 12 since AZ defeat or 9 out of 10 since the restart in January.Would like to see Twente at least take a point from PSV tonight but we somehow have to regain our form.

PSV get a let goal to gain a point at Twente. What an entertaining match and this is why I love the Eredivisie. Twente got three goals in the first half with PSV getting one back. Gakpo had a great shot to pull them within one and Twente tried to hang on but just could not. Lead is now four points. AZ and Feyenoord also play today.

EDIT: corrected the Ajax lead, it's four points. although it is an extra cushion, I still want Ajax to win out!

I was hoping for a 5 point gap, that way we can lose one game and also draw one, but I’m not going to complain. psv still have to travel to de kuip and might drop more points

It’s more like 4.5 points, our goal difference is 32 goals better than PSV’s.

I thought Berghuis was horrible in this game. Three lame attempts to cut inside and shoot that were all easily blocked and that embarrassing air swing.

I was expecting Brobbey to replace him at HT… but we Must Not Use Two Strikers under any circumstances. Glad Berghuis proved me wrong with the third goal because I was waiting for Groningen to score at that point.

I was following the PSV game and a bit gutted they scored 2 mins from time but having got back to 3-2 on 52 I did expect them to score. 4 points is a good lead but they do have Feyenoord away on the day we play AZ away. Their other 5 games are against lower sides and I dont see them dropping points in them.

We just need to keep winning .

Feyenoord are in a must win position right now as AZ are on a tear right now.
