I'm not arguing that it wasn't a soft goal -- I just don't think you can blame Vermeer for it.

i wasn't commenting on whether that one was his fault... i was just saying another good save does not wash away a soft goal allowed

and good grief, luis!!! you don't take the cute penalty down 0-1!!! URGH!!

I had a bad feeling he was going to blow it -- still time to get something out of the game though -- seems like a good time to bring Leonardo on.

Didulika certainly doesn't look well - I think Luis "caught" him. AZ can hardly complain though after the assault on Stekelenberg last season, also after a penalty (free kick?) save I think.

Must be slightly delayed.

Suárez is having one of his bonehead games, he actually has a very negative impact on the team when he does this.

Hope Didulica's OK. Louis was going for the ball but he caught him full in the side of the head with his knee.

Yeah, seeing it again it was definately accidental. That penalty kick was an absolute shocker though!

Very wasteful in front of goal. Cvitanich missed a great chance from about 5 yards out and Luis just shot narrowly over as well.

1-1 another penalty, Suarez scored this time though Romero in the AZ goal guessed right and almost got it :onfire.gif: :blub.gif:

Come on Ajax, lets kill this one off now!

Jesus H. How did we not get another goal. What was that 4 or 5 posts?

Clearly not one of Peter Vink's better matches. Lots of bad calls. Unlucky to hit the woodwork so many times. Van Basten was beside himself on the sideline. I predicted at the beginning of the season that this would come down to the final match day (though i thought it would be for first place). Now it looks like it will be a battle with Twente for sure. I can't see us dropping points next weekend and AZ had a lot taken out of them today and could be for the taking by Twente next week.

I also could not believe that the ball simply refused to go in the net.

I was watching the game on sopcast and the Dutch commentator did make an interesting point about the back four of Ajax. They would simply stand in a row before the middle line and not participate in the offense. We were pushing so hard especially in the last part of the second half and overtime, shouldn't the defense have moved forward more or perhaps some of them.

I guess they saw how the box was already overcrowded...

At the end of the day it's still going to come down to Ajax - Twente no matter what the result was today.

Still, very frustrating.

It's been fun reading through these comments on the AZ game. A TERIBLE first half, but definitely the BEST 2nd period of the season....for once, nearly every player looked FORWARDS when they received the ball!

God knows what MVB said to them at Half Time...he must have threatened to fine them if they passed backwards!

A great, entertaining 2nd period, Ajax's dominance highlighted by the 5 times that the ball hit the woodwork....

If they can play like this in the last 2 games....roll on Champion's League..

A big change was that Prince Harry (well I think that Jan looks like him anyway) came on and was constantly coming forward plus AZ being down to 10 men and their insistence on leaving great big gaps on the left.

As to their goal - I think that the whole defence just went asleep and Vermeer was beaten by the speed of the shot which absolutely flew in.

As Ian said - what a great second half and well worth the trip.
