I think Alderweireld has played really well today, De Jong too, I didnt know 3rd was direct qualification...i thought it was like the uefa cup where we'd have to play an FC Borac or the like again! This has cheered me up!

Yeah, but that's not an essential difference with the UEFA Cup as we knew it: first round - then the group stage.

Right its over, we've qualified for Europe and now we can put this dreadful season behind us, was good to beat PSV at the Arena and Hamburg and Fiorentina in the Uefa cup... Now lets focus on getting Eredivise number 30 next season.

Full time 1-0. Nice display of football when there was only 3rd place to fight for. solid defending and Stek had to make only two saves. I guess this was his last match in Ajax colours. Now the off season to see what changes are going to be made. I found it interesting when Sulejmani came out for Martina that Siem de Jong moved up front. Maybe he can be turned into a striker; interesting thought perhaps.

Satisfactory end to the season in terms of this final game then - didn't watch it but it's on Setanta later (01.00hrs!) so another one to record and watch later.

Shit season nonetheless. A very, very poor one, all in all. I'm glad it's over.

Another brand new start coming up. Which makes me cynical (another new start?), but I'm glad Van Basten did not give Ajax the chance to give him more time...

I think he'll get his spot back under the new coach, no matter who it will be. He's the #1 for Holland and Vermeer has not exactly been great in the past few games. Steks is not finished yet at Ajax.

Not sure we would have won yesterday if that 2nd spot was up for grabs. Thats 2 years in a row Twente have qualified for the CL ahead of us I cannot believe they will do it for a third year next season. Thank goodness this season has finished

But that would presume that Steks wants his old job back. I've got a feeling he will want to try his luck in far-away places.

I still think a proper goalkeeper should be one of Ajax's main spending priorities for next season, along with 4 new defenders.
