I can't make it to the U.K. this time - and I'm so jealous of you guys.

a few surprises in the roster that will train and play in england.
according to ajax.nl these are the guys called by jol:
Selectie trainingskamp Engeland:
Maarten Stekelenburg
Gregory van der Wiel
Jan Vertonghen
Rasmus Lindgren
Urby Emanuelson
Miralem Sulejmani
Ismaïl Aissati
Kenneth Vermeer
Bruno Silva
Luis Suarez
Rob Wielaert
Toby Alderweireld
Dario Cvitanich
Siem de Jong
Vurnon Anita
Jan-Arie van der Heijden
Evander Sno
Jeffrey Sarpong
Daley Blind
Dennis Rommedahl
Mitchell Donald
George Ogararu
Albert Luque
Kennedy
Marvin Zeegelaar
Jeroen Verhoeven
which means that oleguer, gabri and enoh stay at home (all injured), and the same goes for atouba (arrives at the end of the week) and martina, van der hejiden and bodul.
the exclusion of the last two, especially the only central striker we have behind cvitanich, sounds quite surprising to me. like the fact that the "outcasts" luque, ogararu, rommedahl, sno and kennedy are all in the squad. maybe jol wants to test them befor cutting someone definitively. for sure bodul had netted in every friendly we had until know, so...who knows.

I am sorry the men called for the tournee in england are 26 and van der heijden is in the squad.
so bodul is the only non injiured that has been left home.
strange.

Amen. Certainly the time to judge the "outcasts" is now rather than later. And given the current size of the squad, it doesn't make sense to haul along a bunch of guys who'll just "ride the pine," as the American saying goes.

Bodul will be training with the Jong team in Zeeland and they have a friendly there plus another friendly at the weekend. Martina and Bodul would not get much playing time in England so they may as well play for the Jong. Jol has to sort out his squad and decide who he does not want and which young players (mainly midfielders)should go on loan.
Turning to Saturdays game I was a little worried to read Ajax are now selling tickets and have tried to get through to Southampton today to confirm away tickets will still be sold on saturday but no reply as yet.
I take it Ajax have not said anything about this when announcing they had tickets for sale. ? (I am sure
Menno or one of you would have said something by now)

OK, shouldn't be a problem. My Football Ground Guide says the away end holds 3,200 minimum (can be increased to over 4,000). Can't see that selling out somehow.

IAN . They have only sold out 1 stand , behind the goal due to giving away tickets to schools and local clubs. I would imagine they will get 25000, capacity 32000.
Looking forward to meeting you.

Didn't know Pardew was with this club. He was once an up and coming EPL manager. Remember him from several years ago, i think with Charlton but he couldn't keep them up in a relegation battle.

Well-coming from Croydon and being a teenager who liked cheap midweek football in the early 90's I remember 'super' Alan Pardew very well. Always thought the ironic chants a bit unfair especially after the FA Cup Semi winnep against Liverpool but suffice to say I won't be cheering him tomorrow-always struck me as a decent bloke though

1-4 Ajax...
Once again: I wasn't there and I didn't see any footage yet, but this is a very good result.
Bristol City and Southampton are not Premier League, of course, but two wins and eight goals... that's not bad. Better than a 2-1 defeat at Falkirk, for example.
Well done, Ajax.

I presume we will get a match report from our English contingent who attended the match. Looks like Jol is giving everyone a run out in the friendlies. From the looks of things, it looks like we will be playing a 4-4-2 this season. Given we have so many midfielders this makes some sense.
