There are two who could have made a diference today. One was suspended and the other plays later on but for Madrid. We were too easily pushed off the ball and had at least four open shots at goal; a couple hit the woodwork and two were saved by good play by the keeper. Sure we should have won this match but we are a team that can't aford to concede goals.

this is the major difference between us and AZ. AZ would keep the score at 0-0 and find a way to pick up a couple in the second half.

If we go down by a goal against a decent team, it's over. We only can hope for a draw, but most of the games we'll just lose like today. 6 poinst behind AZ looks like a faken black hole!..

Very disappointing game - we had chances but no-one to put them away.

I could have told Marco from the start that Siem de Jong is not a centre forward, ffs if no one else why didn't we put Leo there for example? at least he has an attackers instinct. Not really his fault but SdJ just looked totally lost in that position......

We should have at least got a draw maybe 3 points but we cannot win games without a central striker. I am still not happy we always line up with 2 holding midfielders. Even with Lindgren and Enoh injured we still play Gabri and Vertonghen in those holding positions and we still let in soft goals.

Ironically the only time my stream ( thanks for the info chugger as sopcast was very good) froze slightly was the incident which led to the S/o . I saw Vertonghen arguing but it did not make it very clear that he was sent off.Getting Schilder booked and Vertonghen SO for disputing a throw in is not professional.

Overall we are going to have to hope that AZ have a bad patch and they haven't for 17 games!!!

Ajax have to buy another striker. Sure Cvitanich will be back next game
but when either he or Suarez are injured we have nobody.

Hopefully a better result when we are in town next week...

Thinking more about what took place today and our roster, I think it's time to scrap the 4-3-3 and move to a 4-4-2. Even when Cvitanic comes back, we should start both he and Suarez up front and drop Sulejmani back to a wing in midfield. He can move back and forth from left to right and cause trouble for opponents. We just don't have a classic center forward to run a 4-3-3 these days.

I dont see this makes a difference. In theory we played 4-3-3 last week, and Sulejmani did exactly as you described in your 4-4-2 system. Or close enough.

A loss sucks, but its not the end of the world (just yet). I think we do need a better back up striker of some sort though. It was an off day, lets move on.

Oh! I was under the impression that Ajax had a Reserve and junior teams..... Correct me if I'm wrong, but these "kids" are being taught to play the game the Ajax way.....!

One thing MVB should let Leo go. If he is not going to play him when he has only 2 fit forwards he should stop saying he has to stay and let him go . Leo must have pissed off today not starting!

I posed the question at the beginning of the week about Bodul. this would have been the opportunity to see if he has the stuff; if not throw Castillon in. My problem with Leonardo is that he gets pushed off the ball to easily. I counted three times after he came on that he was easily dispossessed. Sno is the only one we have that can hold the ball well once he gets it. However, he can't hit the broad side of a barn with his shots.

What about Edgar Manucharyan?

Correct. When we will have beaten AZ on the home game at the Arena, it will 3 points difference less.

I'm confident we will celebrate a third star in May.

Still along way to go and Az will drop points. It will be interesting to see if we go into the market for a striker this week.Another one who has experience is necessary .

I have already booked my trip to the last home game of the season against FC Twente. I am confident we will beat AZ at home and make up ground during the season.

I am going with the expectation of lifting the shield on the final day at home

Fully agree, we will get another bite at the cherry before the season is over, but we need a stronger squad if we are to take advantage.

Suarez can't be the lynchpin of the attack, he's not consistent enough in that role. We need a player that things can be built around. Having just one now that Klaas-Jan has gone is not enough depth.

The DIY construction we rolled out against Gronigen just wasn't good enough.
