But I agree in general - players from other Eredivisie teams haven't been that great. It has more to do with the general drop in quality of the entire league over the years.

But this has always been the case. E.g Arnold Scholten, Peter Hoekstra, Gerald Sibon, Dean Gorre, Tom Sier etc etc

Well Jonk, Danny Blind and Overmars were more than decent.

But its a moot point, Eredivisie quality is in a downward spiral. Feyenoord doing well this year and in the next few years will help a little though. We need 3-4 clubs which can hold their own against other European teams. I don't expect AZ Alkmaar/Utrecht to beat top Spanish/English sides, but they should at least be able to compete against the 4th/5th placed teams from the Turkish/Belgian/Greek leagues.

I think we should continue this discussion in another thread as this is the Young Ajax thread.

We lost 4-3 . Neres opened the scoring ,Mazraoui the 2nd and we were 2-1 ahead just before HT .2-2 at Ht and within 10 mins we were 4-2 down.Neres passed for Cassierra to make it 3-4 but although we had chances we ended up losing.

Neres and Cassierra both had better games .Neres mainly left footed played Right wing the 1st half then as an Outside left for the 2nd and he was having a decent game. Cerny very poor he has gone backwards .Midfield decent but not outstanding.Goalie weak defence utterly poor.

Only sub Walian for Mazraoui for the last 20 mins .Eiting went into the back 4 ,which improved it slightly, and we played 4-2-4.

No games for 2 weeks and we are still 2nd ,2 points clear of Jong PSV . We need some better defenders this lot are not good enough and we wont pick up many points in these last 7 games .

He seems to be doing almost everything, about 98,9% of all with his left foot.

agree Neres did use his left foot nearly all the time.98% still better than Traore and Cerny they use their left feet 100%

I'm a bit worried that there are no back line players who seem worthy of advancing. Because Bosz and Overmars have totally botched things up regarding Riedewald and Tete, the club could be woefully thin next season.

Tete today saying he would look to extend his contract.He should be starting every game.More talk of Sanchez going to Barca.

Agree about back up defenders.Zeefuik has promise but not ready for 1st team .The rest are all poor to moderate.Dankerlui Sanniez to go, Bergsma not good enough and Savastano does not impress. Gudelj and Leyder both dont play, need to go.Of course all these moderate to poor defenders have contracts to 2018.

We will have to wait and see what comes from our U19 team. Bakboord is a good RB, Bakker at 17 very big prospect at LB. Boy Kemper left CD .These 3 are all still eligible for U19's next season .Doekhi and Sidoel both CD will be in the Jong next season and Bakker could be LB from the start(Raiola is his agent!! )He seems the one to break through, big strong lad plays Left CD as well.

Best Ajax news since last Thursday. Overmars should immediately make this as top priority and get him extended (currently runs till summer 2018). Veltman will leave (or should be sold) this summer and as you outlined in your post, we don't have anyone else.

A 2-0 win and it was very comfortable against a very poor Utrecht. No way should they be in this league.Ajax PSV Feyenoord should be the only Jong sides in the league ,with maybe AZ who will be next season.

Walian scored the 2nd on 58 ,scrappy goalmouth play and he got a shot in. Other than Cerny missing a good chance not much else to report. de Jong played 60 mins Mazraoui coming on,Clement played 70mins Bay the Danish lad coming on and finally Noa Lang debuting on 81 for Walian.
