Ajax meet up with Groningen and Ajax loanee Dries Janse who is having a good year with them. Can Ajax possibly start playing better?

Doom and gloom with Ajax and we remember the last game with Groningen a 99th min goal which cost us the the title . Many fans turning away but I am still positive and hope we win even if the football is not worthy of our club .
Feyenoord are beginning to falter and even with this fairly poor squad a good coach ,ie like Faioli , would have had us 3rd place and not dropping points against the weak sides.

Bouwman for injured Sutalo only change from Benfica starting lineup.Itakura still 6 but Mokio and Mc Connell are injured so Steur and v d Lans are subs. Klaassen still starts so in effect we have 10 men ,that is cruel but he adds nothing . Gloukh should be playing

Fireworks should be banned this is getting to be a joke.Ajax should stop it ,they search you when you go in so just stop fireworks.The roof is closed so its going to take some time.

F side should be closed ,someone posted we could have to play Feyenoord with an empty stadium as we have a suspended ban for this the last time.

I agree. I know the arenas here in the DC area all have inspections before you go in. Women cannot bring in big purses.

They should also suspend all the supporters who bring in fireworks from ever attending another game. This is just ridiculous. The Dutch FA could get serious about this and just cause the match to be forfeited.

20 secs later and they have thrown more on. Game should be cancelled and a win given to Groningen Close the F side for the rest of the season.

These low life scum make me ashamed to call myself a fan .

Evidently ESPN warned Ajax some fans were going to come in with fireworks ,Ajax frisked fans but someone opened the emergency doors and a 100 or so thugs came in with fireworks.

At this moment I am ashamed to be associated with this club and if Ajax dont close the F Side the Dutch FA will .It does seem as if Ajax should have employed more security and when it was clear some had broken into F Side Ajax should have had that section cleared.

I think the Dutch FA will throw the book at Ajax. The game will likely be played behind closed doors although they may give 3 points to Groningen. I dont expect fans to be allowed for the Feyenoord game.

They should do what they did when the supporter ran onto the pitch and hit the AZ keeper some years ago. Game was abandoned and resumed with mothers and school children in the stands.

I wonder who is responsible for security. Ajax only own a minority of the Arena. City owns 48% and the Stadium Corporation 38%.

The club should probably have cancelled the game when they heard about it. The commentator on ESPN even seemed to know that it was going to happen in the 5th minute so it can’t have been much of a secret. Pretending it wasn’t going to happen turned out to be a massive waste of time for a lot of people.

Its time tributes to dead fans are stopped during playing time . A minutes applause before ko if they are well known and the same with old players.

As for what should happen now , well that stand where the F side are should be closed down for the rest of the season . I dont think points deductions or no fans v Feyenoord is right.

Those fans are thugs and not true lovers of Ajax.What true lover of Ajax would want to get a game stopped?

Easy for me in Uk to have a go but I do think the FA and Mayor will hit Ajax hard over this as Ajax were warned beforehand .

Ajax will close the F side for Feyenoord game but Dutch FA may well punish us harder

Will watch the game in full when I come back in later , I wont look at the score and just treat it as a live game.

Bounida is ill so Gloukh replaces him and Nash is sub.

Two outstanding goals and some critical saves from Jaros give Ajax their first win since late October. The team is still unsettled but managed to make the key plays in this match. Interesting that Ajax was setting up in a 3-4-3 at times with Itakura, Bouwman, and Baas as the deep defenders and Wijndal and Regeer pushed up as wingbacks with Taylor and Klaassen staying back. It's still concerning that Ajax have trouble playing out from the back and there are still gaps in the defense. Maybe this win will settle the team and give it some confidence going forward.

Player Ratings:

Jaros (7.5) - MOTM for me as I counted 4 really good saves that kept the clean sheet
Regeer (5.5) - not really a FB but did enough when asked
Bouwamn (6.5) - had a couple of fluffs in the first half but his volley off the Oscar corner kick was a wonderful goal that clinched things for Ajax
Baas (6.5) - steady enough
Wijndal (6) - better than average and had openings going forward
Itakura (6.5) - moving around on defense from a #6 position to the left side of a back three and had a good game; maybe this is the formation going forward
Klaassen (5.5) - I would have preferred someone else in MF but Klaassen worked hard but is still very limited
Taylor (6) - solid game and hung back to defend
Oscar (6) - did some roaming around from the wing to the MF where he is more comfortable, delivered the perfect corner to Bouwman
Weghorst (5.5) - didn't have any clear chances on goal
Godts (7) - very nice goal as he broke past Blokzijl, then dodged Janse to put the ball into an open net, had nother shot saved and one off the post
Rosa (5.5) - on for Wijndal and did well
Steur (NR) - on for the final 10 or so minutes and had a couple of runs with the ball
Fitz-Jim (NR) - had a couple of good possession
Nash (NR) - on for Godts as a debutante and showed some speed on the wing
Dolberg (NR) - on for Weghorst

Finished watching it a few minutes ago ,been out and watched it as if it were live. Easy to do when the game has been played only a couple of hours earlier .

Maybe the empty stadium did us a favour as it was a good performance and for one of the few times this season I enjoyed it although Groningen did create chances but Jaros made some good saves . Godts with a great goal could have got 2 more but what a beauty by Bouman.

Putting on Steur and Nash was a wonderful sight , if Ajax are going to get back to the top we must play youth. I still dont think Gloukh is any better than Bounida .

So after the dreadful scenes on Sunday there is some light tonight.

Good to get a win at last. The midfield did a better job of keeping possession, which was a pleasant surprise for me. They still conceded far too many scoring chances but overall a better game than the last few.
