02 MAY 2026; Ajax - PSV; Match Day 32

Bericht door Orange14 »

The only hint of optimism I can offer is that we managed a draw in Eindhoven. Unfortunately, we need a win this time around.

Other Important Matches:

NEC - Telstar
Fortuna Sittard - Feyenoord
AZ - Twente

Weghorst injured Dolberg plays which is not bad . MF Reeger,Itakura Mokio all defensive no creativity and Berghuis will be invisible. Will take a draw.

If Ajax had played with this much passion and intensity earlier in the season the would not be in fourth place. Other than the horrible defending by Berghuis on the 30 second corner kick, the first half was excellent. Ajax pressure was good and they came within centimeters of really putting the match to bed. Of course when you have had no luck all season long except that which is bad, you cannot expect things to change right now. It ends up with the same result as in Eindhoven, go down a goal, equalize, go down a goal, and then get the late one to snatch a draw. 2nd place is not going to happen now and Ajax are still dependent on other teams as they needed to win four from four. Best players for me were Dolberg and Mokio on the night.

Player Ratings:

Paes (6) - hurt by his defense on the two goals and had nothing but ordinary shots to save
Gaaei (7) - still cannot defend but he can shoot and can run and has a great cross field pass; maybe some team will want to pay a nice sum for him this summer
Sutalo (6) - woeful pass in the 2nd half and lucky not to have it lead to a score
Baas (6.5) - good enough match
Rosa (6.5) - had a good match until he let the winger get by him which lead to the PSV 2nd goal
Itakura (6.5) - decent as a MF but it's not his natural position
Regeer (6)- OK but really is not the key to Ajax's future
Mokio (7.5) - all over the field defending and attacking, maybe his best match of the year
Berghuis (5.5) - looked like he really fell asleep on the Pepi goal as that was his marker
Dolberg (7) - huge difference from Weghorst, a #9 who can pass and run with the ball
Godts (7) - double teamed for most of the game and couldn't get a shot off until the rebound from Gaaei's shot came his way and he volleyed it home
Oscar (6) - on for Berghuis but couldn't do much
Steur (6) - had one poor pass but otherwise smooth with the ball
Bounida (NR) - on late
Konadu (NR) - on late

Utrecht at home next week

2 messy goals by PSV with woeful defending but 2rocket shots from Gaaei and Godts gets the point. If we can win the last 2 I predict 3rd place but anything less than 4 points and its playoffs.

Gaaei who cannot defend had a good game attacking wise but with 5 defenders and Reeger we had no MF and just Mokio. We have some talented youngsters in MF but need 2 quality players there . Dolberg works hard but does not score goals.

Overall our squad is simply poor and apart from the teenage kids and Godts I would not miss anybody else.

Just 2 more games to suffer.Triller which provides streams in Uk dont do play offs so if we do have to play in them I wont watch and frankly dont care . Conference is a non event of a comp .

NEC get a goal in the final 10 minutes to draw with Telstar so the standings stay the same. I thought Groningen would do better down the stretch as they were fighting for a play off position but the lost to Feyenoord and again today. They host NEC next week and we have to hope for something good to happen.

We were playing PSV B team as all their best players are injured. We set up a MF to not lose but had we played with a more attacking mindset we could have won. We might be lucky and finish 4th. A MF with a moderate CD Itakura and an invisible poor 6 like Reeger makes me want to weep.

We have had amateur coaches this season , the squad does not train properly and is not fit enough to last 90 mins in games. This squad is so poor and one of the worst for many years and they are trying their best to finish 5th They wont win the play offs as most wont be motivated .

Its a shambles but they are my club and my love for Ajax will never dim.

Yes, I just want this season to be over so we can start again next season. If we win the next two I think we’ll hang on to 4th.

The lack of fitness that results in poor second halves of matches is the thing that perplexes me most. I remember watching some of the preseason friendlies under Farioli last year and he had them putting on pressure throughout every match. You never saw that team falter in the 2nd half as much as this year's version. I think this is a major reason for so many draws. You cannot put out past-prime players and expect results in modern day football. This is the one thing Garcia has gotten right in terms of the problem but he also notes that fitness cannot be addressed in a month. It requires working hard from day one.

I truly hope Cruyff can get rid of the remainder of the dross, buyout Klaassen as he is now worthless and maybe even Berghuis (though he has a bit of value as a part time player). Much work to be done. All of this points out how magnificent a job that Farioli did last season.

AZ with a goal at the death (literally the last shot) draw with Twente. So we are at the same place as before the weekend except that Feyenoord pretty much have 2nd place locked up with a 2-1 win over Fortuna, scoring both goals when they were a man up.

Saw Twente were 2-1 up after 94 and did not check the final score until just now. Just thought they had won and we will be 5th .So 3rd is still possible. NEC away to Groningen next week then GAE at home.Twente Sparta at home then PSV away. We have to win both games but dont have much confidence in the team.

If we finish 5th and Conference play offs that will be our worst season for 50 years . Even in 23/24 when 5th we got to Europa League.
