I saw Koeman lasts 6 months. I would also put my money on Co ithe Porto-Benfica head-to-heads.

Yesterday was the Portugese equivalent of Ajax vs Feyenoord: Benfica vs FC Porto, the teams coached by Ronald Koeman and Co Adriaanse, respectively. Before the game Porto were no less than 8 points ahead of Benfica. The gap is now down to 5. Yes indeed, Benfica won: 1-0.

Porto are still at the top of the table (51 points out of 24 games), Sporting Lisbon are second (49 points) and Benfica third (46).

So, Porto are doing very well in the league, but they were eliminated in the group phase of the Champions League, finishing bottom, so they didn't even move on to the UEFA Cup. This is held against Co Adriaanse by many Porto fans, who damaged his car not too long ago. The club seem to believe in Co, though: his contract was extended after only a few months.

Ronald Koeman's situation is the exact opposite: Benfica are disappointing in the domestic league, but made it through a very strong Champions League group (knocking out Manchester United) and are on course for the quarter finals.

Co Adriaanse is about to clinch the Portugese championship with FC Porto, but I don't think he will feel like celebrating. Co lost both of his parents this week. His father died very early on Tuesday morning. The man was 87 years old and had sustained pneumonia. One day later, on Wednesday, Co's mother passed away, too. It was probably the death of her husband that made her lose her will to live.

Co is in The Netherlands at the moment. The funerals are on Saturday.

You can post condolences on the AZ fanpage:
http://www.azfanpage.nl/index.php?nieuw ... el_id=4481

All messages will be sent to Co.

Wouters to PSV

Bericht door ofey » ma apr 24, 2006 10:15 pm

Wouters to PSV?

Seems like that f**ker is joining P$V as a coach?

If he screws them up half as well as he did us, we should win the Eridivisie easily next season... .

Jan Wouters was a great player for Ajax and Oranje. OK, he failed as Ajax head coach during a very difficult period for the club ......... no need to label him a F**ker.

Nah...its just a rumour, Wouters is the assistant manager, he had a good relationship with Dick Advocaat at Rangers, so they will team up in Eindhoven. They should attract certain players like the dirty Fernando Ricksen. I still think that they will challenge us for the league title next season, along with AZ, but ofcourse Feyenoord are down in the dumps, they will most probably concentrate on the play offs, but they wont win it.

Well it certainly has happened. Was Koeman fired from Benfica or did he resign to take over at PSV?

It seems a very strange decision by PSV.

He wasn't fired, but apparently they were willing to let him go. PSV will have to pay a fee for him. According to the reports his family was unhappy in Lisbon and wanted to move back to Holland. You have to understand: great weather, beautiful landscape and there you are, sipping from a glass of Portugese wine, eating some fresh olives on the porch of your beautiful white house, looking out over the azure Mediterranean...

Of course you want to return to Eindhoven!

I said this (in the wrong thread, I admit) and I will say it again:
Great! Great!

He will slowly but certainly destroy them like he destroyed us. In his first year he can take advantage of Hiddink's work and do reasonably well. But then he'll start making his own decisions (formation, transfers) and it will all go tits up.

And they have no money. And I hope he'll accept Jan Wouters as his assistant.

Wonderful news. Cheers! :bier:
The best thing is: he was the third choice of the players (the first two were Henk ten Cate and Martin Jol) and he wasn't the first choice of the board either.

Koeman and Wouters in charge of PSV... This is a great day. It would have been even funnier if they'd signed Dick Advocaat, but hey: you can't have everything and I'm very pleased with this, too.

LOL - but it does appear that members of this board do have a big problem with Portugal - Pizza 5 couldn't find it when we were driving back from Vigo a couple of years ago - I mean how can you not find a friggin country. Now we have our leader who has obviously spent too much time with said Pizza 5 as Portugal doesn't look out over the Med, but over the cold, grey Atlantic.

How on earth anyone would swop Portugal for the soul-less city which is Eindhoven is completely beyond me. But then it does take all-sorts to make this world.

Well,

it does seem a pretty strange decision by PSV given Koeman's mediocre management record...are they trying to appease the fans by getting a "name" like Tottenham when they got Ardiles a few years back.

Time will tell I supppose, after all some coaches do come good in time and not always in their first job. Terry Butcher at Coventry/Sunderland (rubbish) and now at Motherwell (not rubbish) springs to mind.

Anyway, everyone other than Ko, glad to see we're not the only ones who do this.....

I saw the rumor about Gerard van der Lem going to Vitesse. Would he be Danny Blind's assistant in the event Blind takes the job?

but all the messages are gone today. It seems Blind rejected the job offer because he wants to go abroad. Van der Lem is now the new ace for Vitesse.

Danny Blind has said that he will basically take a year off. He's been in touch with AEK Athens, but he turned them down ("too vague"). Next season he will do some match analysis and commentary on TV, and that will be it.

Well, good for him.

He'll recognise the (Ajax-stylee) shirts there then. Haven't they just got relegated? - a bit of a surprise appointment I'd say.

I didn't know where to put it, but I think it is the best place.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza Leo Beenhakker will be new coach of Poland (it is not official news, but the newspaper says that they are sure in 90% for that). He will replace Paweł Janas, which didn't have the good results during the World Cup.
Most of people are happy with that decision of polisf FA (PZPN), but Roman Hurkowski, one of the most known people in polish football said that it it the worst decision, because polish FA want to cover all the scandals in our football by hireing great coach. Well, it could be true, but I still think that Beenhakker is the best choice. He had a few successes in his job. Besides that - he could create a solid team in T&T, so it will be easier to make the same in Poland (well, I do hope so)... Polish coaches stopped in the 70's, they have the problems with using 4-4-2 strategy, which is changing by most of coaches as a bit old...

Yeah... First man from Ajax in polish football. Sounds good. All the best for Leo (and - of course - for all the supporters here).
