I think you're underestimating Mr Scampi-in-a-basket-hairstyle.

I think his commitment and battling style will be more appreciated in the Premiership than Spain or Italy and I think he'll quickly build a bond with the fans similar to the one he enjoyed at Thugrecht and Fword.

He's also got more skill than you give him credit for, and I actually think he'll do well there. His holding the ball skills are important in the English game, and he's the kind of goal poacher they seriously missed last season.

Anyway, he scored 70 or so goals in 100 or so games for Fword so his departure has to be good news for us.

This guy took us apart single-handed at the ArenA in August of last year. I for one will not be sorry to see him go.

Have to agree with the previous posters on this one. Dubbel, you must have been watching a different player from me the last few seasons as Kuijt has been one of the best players by far in Eerdivisie over the last few years. I wish that Ajax had a few more players of his limited ability in those 2 seasons.Agree with OPH about his performance at the Arena last year.

Benitez will not make any money from this deal as Liverpool were not the only English club who had put bids in for him round about the 10 million pounds mark.

If Dirk Kut needs help packing or a ride to the airport, I'm more than happy to fly over and oblige. Good Riddance , and I don't mean the band of the same name . He was a pain in the collective backside of Ajax.

I think he'll do well at Liverpool. Language won't be an issue . He's more than just a tall target man . IMHO , he's more than athletic enough to fit in with Bellamy or Luis Garcia. Or with Crouch if Liverpool goes twin towers .

I read today that the transfer fee for Kuijt is 9 million pounds. That seems about fair. A few weeks ago the speculation was 11-12 million pounds, and at the time I thought that was a few million too high. 9 million seems reasonable for both Liverpool and Feyenoord.

Oh, and apparently Kuijt rejected a salary package of 90,000 pounds per week from Newcastle in order to sign with Liverpool!

Everybody was able to take us apart last year... but Danny Blinds faith was not sealed by the likes of Dierk Kuijt.

I watched Dierk closely during Feijenoord's play-off games and during Germany 2006. You can probably find people who say he played well. I'm not one of them. All I can say is that I think 9 million pounds is a lot of money for this Duracel rabbit.

And I think the whole Newcastle thing(bid and fake press statements like 'I want to become the next Shearer')served mostly to force LFC into paying too much. No wonder the Scouse board couldn't agree for a long while. It's their biggest gamble in years.

Kuijt may have been an over average player in Holland due to his running skills and his 'keep on trucking' attitude. But in England there are plenty of his kind and he will not be able to make the difference. He should have signed at Levante or so.

Reportedly for a fee of 2.1 million pounds. I don't know, from Blackburn's perspective, if this is a good deal or not for a 32 year-old defender. But regardless, from Ajax's perspective, it's a nice deal just to have another player gone from PSV's squad.

1. I was born in Portland, and currently live there, as well... hence, the Timbers.

2. Watching Ajax as a kid is what really turned me into a football fan beyond just my school games and Timbers games in Portland... and I've been a big fan ever since.

3. I worked for Southampton during their last good season... when Strachan took them to an 8th place finish and FA Cup Final appearance in 2002/2003. Had a lot of fun there, still have friends in the city, and "work" involved hanging out with the players and having my morning tea with Strachan nearly every day... pretty cool.

Granted, it's second division football in the small-time U.S. football scene, so nothing monumental... but still... it's a lot of fun, we have a great time, and compared to a lot of the U.S. scene, it's not a bad support group.

Ha ha... funny. Unfortunately, also pretty accurate. Ugh. But for a lower echelon Prem club (which is what they really are), I could've done worse than get hooked up with Southampton.

And no, they don't show Championship league games here. I listen to most Saints matches through radio broadcasts on the internet.

@ AjaxPDX:

Try this website: http://www.freelivefooty.com/sport/index.php?

Wp-Legend got me on to it. It costs about $3 p/month and they show lots of English matches on-line every week. Including The Saints. Dutch top-matches and many internationals as well. You can request matches that you want to see. Not all requests are honoured. Excellent streaming quality. Much better then Sopcast, TV Ants etc.

I wouldn't downplay Timbers Army. They have an excellent reputation among supporters' groups in the U.S. They're probably as respected among those in the know as Section 8 Chicago and the DC United groups. It is my hope that the Texian Army gets that kind of respect one day.

You won't believe this...

F-word have been put under legal restraint by the KNVB. It turns out that they are in financial trouble.

The club have been in this situation since 2004-2005, but they never publicly confirmed it. It now appears that they have a 'negative capital' of 16 million euros. Their budget for this season is 40 million euros.

For the record: Ajax have a budget of 60 million euros this season, and a capital of approximately 80 million euros. Ajax are a very healthy club, financially.
