Aston Villa will reportedly make a move for Ajax's Wesley Sneijder after his move to Valencia collapsed, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The Dutch international has made it clear he sees his future away from the Amsterdam ArenA but the Villans will face some tough competition, with Barcelona tipped to show an interest should Portuguese star Deco leave.
The paper says Villa boss Martin O'Neill watched the 22-year-old in action in the Dutch Cup final and could now make his move after Valencia had three bids of £8million rejected.
Sneijder said: "The only way to break with Ajax is by kicking up a fuss. But that's not my style. This is the moment for a transfer.
"I have been playing in the first team at Ajax for five years. And surely Ajax don't want to let me walk out for free in two years' time?"
However, the Dutch giants are clearly reluctant to lose the midfielder who scored 18 goals in the Eredivisie last season and it would take a huge offer from Villa to force Ajax's hand.
The club's sporting director Martin Van Geel said: "Wesley is 22 years old. I know of his ambitions, but he can easily fulfil these when he's 23, 24 or even 25 years old.''
"We are sorry for him, but we are not unhappy to have Wesley here another year.
"There will always be other options in the future, but for now, there are no tangible contacts with other clubs.
"Luckily, I know Wesley doesn't feel it's a punishment to stay a bit longer in Amsterdam, so in a way nothing is lost."

let's learn from our own history : never keep a player who would anything to leave : never again !
Bye Wesley, good luck !
You are already gone.

It's a long summer, and I suspect we'll see Wes leave. But that move doesn't have to happen ASAP. There's still more moves to unfold. If (and I know it is a big "if") Ajax keep Sneijder and have a good run into the CL (1/4 finals or better), they'd pretty much make up the lost income from not selling him this summer (and then some, I'd say).
Having said that, I still think he's going to go this summer. Just because the Valencia deal fell through (for now, though one should never say never) doesn't mean he won't be sold this summer.

Ajax is art , usually , but it is also business. The vultures will undoubtedly come calling , plant false stories about this bid or that , and try to get Sneijder for a pittance. FUCK the lot of them. The vultures should know the price tag by now. If they really want our 18 goal talent , it's time to ante up. No more Zlatan's is right on the mark. With Perez apparantly leaving , why should Ajax be in any hurry to sell another very creative force ?

Van Geel thankfully is not selling any players on the cheap.
I think Wes will go . We want 20m euros for him but imagine somewhere between 15 and 20 will get him.Certainly not the 12m Valencia want to pay.
As for Aston Villa wanting him well we want Kaka!!
KJH is the other big player who might go. We will stick to 25m euros and doubt Juve would want to pay that unless it is over 10 years!!!. As for Man u they have just spent £60m on 3 players and I am not sure they will want to pay 25m euros for KJH.Unless they come in for him at the asking prce I do not think he will leave this summer.( I know he has said he will have another year here but not sure he would say no to Man U )

Kenneth Perez is serieus geïnteresseerd in een overgang naar Feyenoord. De Ajax-middenvelder wacht echter met een definitieve beslissing tot duidelijk is wie de nieuwe trainer van de Stadionclub wordt.
what a surprise : a racist in De Kuip !
perez has serious interest in fey@rnd and the deal is waiting for the new trainer to be done
I only wonder why Ten Cate signed him just to get rid of him a year later ... Anyway the only question worth asking now is ; who will replace him ?
We need to strengthen our squad for the CL.

Wasn't Perez signed before Ten Cate arrived?philippe schreef:I only wonder why Ten Cate signed him just to get rid of him a year later ... Anyway the only question worth asking now is ; who will replace him ?

I agree with you there Philippe, but would add that we need to strengthen our squad for the Eredivisie to ensure that we win the thing and then don't have to go through the trauma of the playoffs again.
As to players leaving the club, a presenter on one of the UK sports radio programme made a valid point on the timing of the transfers viz:- if a player is signed now then they have to start paying their salary immediately and with the fanciful sums that players are paid nowadays clubs would rather wait another month at least. I tend to believe in this theory and as such feel that the moves could well only start from mid-July onwards.

3 players to leave?Ajax striker Tom De Mul wants to leave the club for UEFA Cup winners Sevilla.
De Mul claims the Spanish side has tabled a bid to Ajax.
"Now it's up to the clubs to reach an agreement," De Mul said to ABC in Belgium.
"I know what I want, and that is to play at Sevilla. I will do my best.
"Each player would like to play for such a good team. I did not speak with Ajax yet. Playing in the Spanish league would be great, and they even play in the Champions League."

Even though he started for Ajax and, yesterday , for Belgium , he would be a player in Spain ,Italy , or England routinely referred to as "cover" . Seville can probably get him fairly cheap. IMHO , Seville would be doing us a favor. Taking a player off our hands before we lose him for nothing? Sounds okay to me.

Au contraire...wingers are a dime a dozen....but great wingers...the kind of wingers that are essential for the Ajax 4-3-3 system to work are very very difficult to find.philippe schreef:Wingers are not that easy too find, are they ?ZoefdeHaas schreef: he's a "replaceable" player.
And IMHO De Mul isn't in the latter category.

Having said that, I personally don't think he performed as well from what I saw when he played. I think the personality clash Perez had with HTC drove this more than pure ability.
Just my POV.....
